Betts, 78, a member of a pioneer family, will be at 1PM tomorrow at the Morley Mellinger Funeral Home, Tacoma. He died Tuesday. The Betts family has owned the Redondo Beach Park since the late 1800s. Mr. Betts' father, Charles E. Betts named the area Redondo. Mr. Betts also owned the Redondo Skating Arena until it was destroyed by fire in 1951 and also operated the Woodland Park Kiddyland several years. In 1961 he built and operated the first dry storage boat marina on Puget Sound. Mr. Betts' antique hand carved carousel is at the Seattle Center and he had been operating his 67-year-old merry-go-round at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma. Mr. Betts was past Master of Des Moines Masonic Chapter 245, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a life member of the Roller Skating Rink Operators Association and a member of America Northwestern Showman's Club and Queen City Yacht Club. Surviving are his son, Byron, Redondo and two daughters, Mrs. Eric Englund, Everett and Mrs. Pat Paltison, Spokane.
