He was born in Oklahoma about 1898/1900 to James Emmett and Tennie Louise (Foster) Downes. He died in 1918 from a car accident in Seattle. Where can I find information about the accident, as I'm sure there wasn't many cars in Seattle. Not sure about the month, but believed he died in April. Also, a younger brother died the same year, but died as a newborn and was (per family story) is buried on top of Joseph.
