She was born in Seattle, Washington in 1937 to Jack and Lois Oatey. Her family later moved to Southern California. She was married to Richard T. Smith (RT) who precedes her, and she has lived in Newport Beach most of her adult life. Patricia was an at tendance administrator for Corona del Mar High School. Previously she worked for Hoag Hospital and in her career served as principal for La Palma School and ran two retail/gift shop businesses in Newport Beach titled "Did You Say Red White and Blue" and "Neat Things". She especially enjoyed working with students, and her role at the Corona del Mar school was expanded to include many weekend and evening activities such as test administration and sports functions. Pat was very active in many Newport Beach community activities such as the orchestration of the first Newport Beach Tournament of Roses P! arade float in over 60 years as part of the City's 100th birthday celebration. She was a tireless contributor to the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, including the Taste of Newport annual event and gave selflessly of her time to the community she loved. Pat was co-chair on the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life event and dedicated many hours of her time in the final years of her life to help future generations. Pat is survived by her father, Jack Oatey of Santa Fe Springs, California; three brothers, David Oatey of Hemet, California, Michael Oatey of Walnut Creek, California, and Robert Oatey of Long Beach, California; sister, Carol Herstedt of Brea, California; her two sons, Michael (Kate) Smith and Kirk (Paige) Smith; and her four grandchildren, Hailey, Jake, Madison and Charlie. A Memorial Service was held Monday, April 24, 2006, 3:00 p.m., at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 600 St. Andre ws Road, Newport Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be m! ade to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life at: Newport-Mesa Uni t, 1940 E. Deere Ave., Ste 100, Santa Ana, CA 92705.
