Nichols is currently deployed overseas at a forward operating location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Nichols, an ammunition specialist with one year of military serivce, is normally assigned to the 101st Sustainment Brigade, Fort Campbell, Ky. He is the son of Mark Nichols of Edmonds and Tammy Dobbs of Seattle. Navy Seaman Recruit Trevor S. Stone, son of Jessica and Donald Stone of Edmonds recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Stone is a 2005 graduate of Kamiak High School in Mukilteo. Lynnwood. Navy Seaman Recruit John P. Lee, son of Elizabeth Lee of Bothell and Jerry Lee of Lynnwood, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Comamnd, Great Lakes, Ill. Lee is a 1993 graduate of Meadowdale High School in Lynnwood. Navy Seaman Eric C. Kelley and his fellow shipmates completed exercise Bright Star 2005 during a scheduled deployment while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Tarawa homeported in San Diego. USS Tarawa conducted training exercises off the coast of Egypt with Egyptian, Greek and Jordanian amphibious landing forces while assigned to Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) 1. Kelley is a 2003 graduate of Meadowdale High School in Lynnwood. Michael D. Balam graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as "Operation Warrior Forge," at Fort Lewis in Tacoma. Balam, son of Lilia and Randy Balam of Lynnwood, is a 2002 graduate of Lynnwood High School and is currently attending Washington State University in Pullman. Navy Seaman Recruit Elizabeth A. Peterson, sister of Jennifer Sorensen of Lynnwood, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Ill. Navy Seaman Apprentice Brandon J. Neal, son of Debbie Neal of Bothell, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Neal is a 2004 graduate of Lynnwood High School. Mill Creek/Bothell. Marine Corps Pfc. Paul D. Shelton, son of Debra and David Shelton of Bothell, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif. Obituaries: Alma Krueger. Alma Krueger, 89, born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 5, 1916, died peacefully in her sleep on October 22, 2005, at Crista Nursing Home. She has been buried at Acacia Cemetery. Alma lived at Masonic Retirement Center for 10 years before moving to Crista in February 2005. She is survived by her children, Bonnie (Dave) McCroskey, Gary (Betty) Krueger, and Bob Krueger; brothers, John Hennessey and Curtis Hennessey; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 68 years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Diabetes Research or Shrine Hospital. Hazel Peterson. October 29, 1908-October 25, 2005. Hazel Peterson, of Edmonds, Washington, passed away on October 25, 2005, at age 97, surrounded by her family. She was born in Sheldon, North Dakota, October 29, 1908, to Charles and Mary Newton. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Royal S. Peterson; two sisters; and a brother. She is survived by daughter, Jean Eastman, of Edmonds; son, Robert (Connie) Peterson, of Fargo, North Dakota; brother, Wilmer Newton, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Hazel graduated from Valley City, North Dakota, Teachers College and taught kindergarden and first grade for several years before moving to Seattle, Washington, in 1941 with her husband. She was a member of Edmonds United Methodist church, the Fiorito Children's Hospital Guild for over 40 years, Daughter's of the Nile, and was a Steven's Hospital Volunteer for many yaers. She had a great sense of humor, loved to tell jokes a! nd write poetry. Hazel loved her family, playing bridge, and watching the Mariners and Sonics games. A famly graveside service was held at Washelli on October 29, the date of her birth. Memorial serivces were held November 6, at Edmonds United Methodist Church, 828 Caspers Street, Edmonds, WA 98020. Remembrances may be made to EUMC Memorial Fund or the Children's Orthopedic Hospital.
