Here is the obituary for son John W. King: Deceased Name: John W. King CA United States KING, John W. -- 85, passed away June 7, 2003 at Stanford Medical Center. Born June 20, 1917 in Deer Lodge, Montana, he grew up in Seattle, Washington and spent 2 years in Alaska before relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1941. A radio operator with Pan American Airlines, John worked in Naval Air Transport during World War II. He continued to work for Pan Am until 1950 when he began work at Ampex Corporation in Redwood City. While at Ampex, John participated in the development of the first video recorder in 1956. He retired from Ampex in 1980. John's wife of 60 years, Lurine, passed away three months earlier. John is survived by his daughters: Carol King, Connie Reddy, and Janet Kupka, and by his granddaughters: Lara Sandora, Tasha Reddy, Erin Reddy, and Katy Kupka. John was active in the Society of Wireless Pioneers and the Serra Parents Association. He was an enthusiastic ham radio operator, fisherman, golfer and bridge player, but he will be remembered most for hi! s gentle, caring and generous spirit. There will be a private scattering of ashes at sea. A memorial celebration of his life will be held June 21 at 3:00 at his daughter's home in Los Altos.
