Rice and C. Schen were committed to the insane asylum by Judge Osborn yesterday. C. H. Rice is a young man with several aliases and has been known by the names of Praegor and Cator. He is the burglar who entered Lynch’s furniture store last month, but was foiled in his felonious designs by falling down an elevator shaft, from which his sustained serious injures which have probably affected his mind. He was found on the morning after the fall in an unconscious condition and taken to the hospital. Several days ago Rice manifested various signs of insanity, and, while at first they were believed to be feigned for the purpose of escaping the penitentiary, it was soon proven that the man’s mind was really deranged, and he will be sent to the asylum at Steilacoom for treatment. Schen was a German laborer and until recently a hard-working man, but of late he has been very violent and has developed a decided propensity for fighting. His in sane ideas and violent moods have been causing his friends a great deal of trouble. He is 45 years of age and has been residing at the corner of Hington and Willow Streets.
