Thanks so much again. What a find on this side of my husband's family and their lives the successes and tragedies. I had traced Mrs Agnes Reedy's family to ND with her son being a Dr. Philip Reedy. Later discovered she and her husband moved to Seattle to live either near by or with their daughter, Kathyrn Davis but didn't know much more about the family. By any chance would there be an obit for Elizabeth Linden & Margaret Mary Davis's sister, Patricia Hertrich but she may still be alive with her sister living to 94. Also in the Seattle area there would be grandsons of Agnes Reedy, Thomas James Reedy died about June 1, 1991, Robert Graham Reedy d. Sept 27, 2004 buried in Evertt, Snohomish, WA and James Edward Reedy d. Dec. 15, 1999 and assume he would have been in the Seattle area. I located their deaths on the internet but no idea how to go about getting their obits. There again, I'd appreciate any suggestions. This is just like Christmas locating the obits that you located and again thanks so much. Alona Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Ms. Davies worked her way to the 1945 founding conference of the United Nations in San Francisco as part of its stenography pool. And in 1960, she became the first female faculty member with a doctorate in Seattle University's Economics Department. Ms. Davies, known to those who knew and loved her as a modest woman who led a simple life, died on June 17 at West Seattle's Providence Mount St. Vincent assisted-living facility. She was 94. "Her highest interests were always involved in reading and good, stimulating discussion," said Ms. Davies' niece Mary Linden Sepulveda, of Seattle. "Her idea of excitement would be to treat herself to a New York Times subscription and then stay up and wait until it was delivered at 1 [AM] and read it into the wee hours of the morning because she was so fascinated with world events." Born in Seattle, Ms. Davies grew up in West Seattle's Admiral District. She attended the Forest Ridge Convent, then located on Capitol Hill, then went on to complete her undergraduate degree in general literature at the University of Washington. In the mid to late 1930s, Ms. Davies worked as a secretary at the King County Assessor's Office until she was hired by Boeing in the early 1940s and was a scientific flight test engineer, reading maps and charts for the development of bombers. Later, her work with the American delegation at the United Nations in 1945 led to a move to Washington, D.C., to be a part of the United States State Department Treaty Affairs division of the Office of the Legal Adviser. Ms. Davies then joined the team that implemented the Marshall Plan in Greece from 1947 to 1948. When she returned to Seattle, Ms. Davies went back to school, graduating with a doctorate in political science and economics from the University of Washington in 1960. Ms. Davies was a professor at Seattle University until she retired in 1978. In addition to her interest in world affairs and academia, Ms. Davies was committed to her family and her community, and she donated time to several councils on aging, as well as to Catholic charities. She not only took care of her parents and grandmother, but also nurtured her seven nieces and nephews. "She introduced us to live theater ... and the Woodland Park Zoo," said Sepulveda, adding that as the children got older, her aunt often invited University of Washington professors to join their family dinners. Sepulveda said she will miss "the joy of conversing" with her aunt. The two talked about "current politics, the love for the city of Seattle, books, family ... just everything." In addition to Sepulveda, Ms. Davies is survived by her sister, Patricia Hertrich, of Bainbridge Island and three nieces and three nephews. Funeral services, followed by a reception, will be held at 9:30AM Saturday at the chapel at Providence Mount St. Vincent, 4831 35th Avenue Southwest, Seattle. Born August 16, 1915, Betty died March 23, 2004, in Seattle at age 88 after years of failing health. Raised in West Seattle, Betty graduated from high school at Holy Names Academy in 1935 and from Forest Ridge College (Seattle) in 1937. In 1942 she married Jimmy Linden, the love of her life. They were blessed with 30 years together before Jimmy died in 1972. She stayed on in her beloved home in the Wedgwood neighborhood and was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Parish for over 60 years. Betty worked for many years in the Registrar's Office at the University of Washington and in retirement enjoyed reading, playing cards, and day trips to Longacres with her neighbors. Betty will always be remembered for her radiant smile, deep faith, and unconditional love. First and foremost in life was her family. She devoted herself to the loving and nurturing of her children and grandchildren, who were a constant source of joy and pride. The Seattle Times Friday, August 31, 1934 Auditor Is Questioned On $10,000 Shortage Detective Captain and Deputy Prosecutor Seek Full Story of Transactions; Victims' Condition Serious James E. Davies, who attacked his family with a hammer in their West Seattle home yesterday, was being questioned in the city jail today by Deputy Prosecutor Emmett G. Lenihan and Detective Captain Ernest W. Yoris about the $10,000 shortage which Davies admitted in his accounts at the First National Bank. Davies was discharged as Assistant Auditor of the bank Saturday, after bank officials said they discovered the shortages, dating back ten years. Three Still in Hospital Davies' three victims were reported still in serious condition at Providence Hospital. The victims are Davies' daughter, Margaret Mary, 22 years old, who suffered a critical skull fracture and broken arm; his wife, Kathleen, 52, whose skull was fractured and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Agnes Reedy, who suffered shock and lacerations. Bank officials said the loss was covered by insurance. Lenihan said he planned to question Davies about details of the method used in the embezzlements, but no result of the questioning was announced. Davies was jailed without charge after his arrest yesterday morning at his home, 3770 Grayson Street. Family Knew of Shortage Davies had told his wife and daughter about his bank shortages and they had promised to stand by him, even if it meant losing their home, Davies said yesterday. He said he and his family had "lived high," but said he did not blame them "because they did not know what salary I was getting.' The thought that he could not bear to have his daughter "face the public with her father a prisoner in the penitentiary" drove Davies to attack her and the others, he said. Davies attempted to strangle himself to death with a pajama cord an hour after being jailed. A jail physician rescued him.
