He was born in Scranton, Kansas. Before his retirement, Mr. Knight was a plasterer. He later worked for the Washington Co-operative Association and was a member of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen's Union, Local 186. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Vendene Sincere, Seattle and Mrs. Merne McMullen, Wenatchee; two sons, Merle Knight, Council Bluffs, Iowa and Kenneth Knight, Santa Barbara, California; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Born in a sod hut on the prairie at Kronenthal, North Dakota, Mrs. Nelson achieved recognition in military and diplomatic circles as well as in the arts. Mrs. Nelson had been an active member of the local chapter of the National League of American Pen Women and of the Women Painters of Washington. Three of her paintings were hung at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. Surviving are her husband, retired Army Colonel Paul B. Nelson of Federal Way and their son, Paul B. Dow, Customs Broker, Dies Suddenly Frank P. Dow, veteran Seattle customs broker and founder of the Frank P. Dow Company, died suddenly at his home yesterday morning after an illness of several months. He was 73 years old and had been retired from business since last August. Since then Robert A. White, President, has been in active charge of the business. Mr. Dow's firm was one of the largest customs brokerage houses on the Pacific Coast and had many notable accounts. He imported a great quantity of porcelain and represented several large eastern importers, including the F.W. Woolworth Company. He also had extensive fish cannery interests. Mr. Dow was born at Lawrence, Massachusetts, in 1859. He came to Seattle in 1889 from New England. Mr. Dow is survived only by his widow, Mrs. Anna M. Dow, 627 36th Avenue North, who was at his bedside when death came. He was a member of the Rotary and Artic Clubs and was also consul for Costa Rica. He was struck about the same time that Charles Udell, 70 years old, was fatally injured on the Seattle-Tacoma Highway, south of the city limits, yesterday afternoon by an automobile driven by Miss Irene McKibbon, 48 years old, of Tacoma. Udell was walking along the highway and as Miss McKibbon's machine approached he smiled and started to step out of the way. She swerved to avoid him, but he dodged back and was struck, she reported later. He died in Harborview Hospital without regaining consciousness. He resided at McMicken Heights, south of the city.
