The blast was heard by persons a mile away, witnesses told Deputy Coroner John P. Brill Jr. It tore a large hole in the roof. Fransen apparently was working on top of the 30 foot high cooker, Joseph Husk, manager of the plant told the Coroner's Deputy and Deputy Sheriffs Charles Snively and Frank Huhn. He was knocked 20 feet through the air and his head struck a vat. No cause for the explosion had determined. ========== The Seattle Times Thursday, June 11, 1942 Page 18, Column 5 Herman Fransen Funeral Funeral services for Herman Fransen, 42 years old, who died of injuries suffered in a cooker blast Tuesday at a plant at 9701 East Marginal Way, will be held at 1:30 o'clock Saturday morning at the Georgetown Undertaking Company. Burial will be in Washington Memorial Park. Mr. Fransen was born in Holland. He had lived in Seattle two years. He is survived by his widow, Mathilda. ========== The Seattle Times Thursday, June 11, 1942 Page 31, Column 1 Funerals Fransen, Herman, June 9, age 42 years old, beloved husband of Mathilda Fransen of Route 3, Seattle.
