Hi, All.... Could anyone do an obituary look-up for me? Clarence Leonard Lee of Kent, King Co., WA was born 23 July 1899, in South Dakota. We believe he died in Seattle, WA, on Christmas Eve 1947-- 24 December 1947. He was the son of Mary Ann/ Mariane [nee Pederson Berg] and her husband Austin Lee. Clarence's Military Draft Registration lists his birthday as 12 vs 23 July 1899. Thank you, Eldora in Hudson, WI
I have just begun to do these searches in Washington. For the life of me I can't find an official state site for this, even on Google. I've done a lot of research in IL and IN, where both have a state site. You put in the name of a person and it gives you all the possible hits for marriage, death, or whatever you're looking for. Then if something fits what you know, you can write for the relevant records. This is, obviously, invaluable. So far all I've found here is a site where you can buy records if you already know the date. This is useless if you don't have it yet. Perhaps I'm just too new to have found it. Can somebody help? I don't have Ancestry and don't want to subscribe just for that. Thanks, Doris Waggoner Seattle

Hi, There isn't such a site in Washington. There is a death index on Ancestry, but only after 1940 (or close to this date) until I believe the 60s or so. In fact, the printed index for the 1900s up to 1940 are almost illegible. There is a card index at the Seattle Public Library which contains most obituaries, but I am not sure what dates are covered. The LDS church has the index on film that can be ordered, and I heard there is a more legible copy available. They also have films for the certificates to avoid paying the $17 charged by the State. I also heard that the Seattle Genealogical Society has a microfiche index, but I have never used it. This is my take, if anyone is aware of other info, I would love to hear it. Dear Seattle Friends, I wish to find the date when Roy Mueller and Verle (Williams) Mueller were divorced. Family members state that it took place in the Seattle area and they suggest that it was about 1950, but no one knows the date for sure. Both Roy and Verle are now deceased. The information is needed for a family history that we are putting together. Can anyone advise how/where to find the information. Thanks in advance. George Hoyt GWGEHoyt@aol.com
