They are now known not to be the children listed in my message as these are for another Harcus family in Seattle who had similar names. So still searching for the children of William Dunnet Harcus and wife Pauline. I have him on the 1900 to 1920 Censuses and with his wife on the 1930 Census but no children showing. In 1950 Pauline was a widow with 3 children according to letters sent back home but where she was living at the time is not known.

All that is left is the old cemetery and a few foundations. The town made its living through coal mining 100+ years ago. I'm not sure, but I seem to remember that a strike had something to do with the downfall of the town -- there were colorful stories about that strike, even a rumor that someone was actually tarred & feathered and run out of town. Any maintenence of the cemetery is probably done by our local volunteers. Over the years many of the headstones were broken off and, in some cases, stolen. The last time I hiked up into the woods to see the cemetery there were just a handful of markers left and it was sad to see. The best place to get information on Franklin would be the Black Diamond Historical Society. They sell a Black Diamond History book written by Cory & Diane Olsen and Carl Steiert back in the early 1980's, when many of the pioneer families still had representation here. There are photographs & many stories about Franklin in this book. It also includes fascinating interviews with a quite a few of the old timers. If you are local to the area, then you'll know where to go. If you live in another state, please let me know if I can help you any further. Sheila

Sam and Joe had a construction company in seattle for many years, then sam took it over and my grandfather opened a grocery store. Macri Construction was in business until sometime in the 1960's or so. Saverio (Sam) had sons Stephen, Sam, Don, and Paul and they were all part of Macri Construction. I believe that Sam is still alive and the other three have passed. His pension records say he died 5/1900 but the notice in Everett Herald of his burial was dated 6/1895 and the cardex on his Civil War tombstone says 5/1/1895. His wife Emma Allen remarried to a WM. F. Rogers and was living in 1900 census with children Gordon, Belle, John and Nellie and says married 7 years which would also support the 1895 date of death. The children listed with Emma Rogers are also the correct children for John Allen/McCarty. If anyone knows of any early marriage records for King Co. I would apreciate if they would check to see if a Emma Allen married Wm. F. Rogers (b/1858) between 1895 and 1901 Belle Allen married Sibbi Paysee by 1910 and the Rogers/Paysee family were living together in Seattle. We need this information to confirm that we have the correct pension records for our vet. The burial records at Evergreen only give name John McCarthy/McCarty and no date at all. If I could confirm her marriage date this may solve our puzzle! Also if anyone is researching thease surnames would love to hear from you.

Hello all, This is announcement comes from a website that I volunteer for: GenealogyForum.org is celebrating it's 2nd Year!!! In honor of this event, we'll be having Open House from October 16 to October 22!!! Our volunteers will be on hand from 8pm EST to 10pm EST each night to tell you about GenealogyForum.org. They'll also help you with your research and answer your genealogy related questions. And, be sure to join us October 19th starting at 8 pm EST for a special Research Party. Moderators will be on hand to do research look ups in a variety of materials including the census, vital records, and other materials. Not all areas will be covered. But, if we can't fill your request online, we'll do our best to help you off line!!! GenealogyForum.org has grown over the last two years. We started out with a couple of genealogy chats. We've grown by adding resource centers, special topics, and a message board. So, help us celebrate our 2nd year anniversary. Stop in for a visit, meet the volunteers, and find out what we're all about! Thanks!
