    3. Armistice Day November 11, is the anniversary of the Armistice which was signed in the Forest of Compiegne by the Allies and the Germans in 1918, ending World War I, after four years of conflict. Armistice means truce. President Woodrow Wilson's original proclaimation issued in 1919 ended with this sentiment: To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nation. Veterans Day. After World War II, Amercia's newest veterans needed their day also. In 1954 President Eisenhower changed the name to Veterans Day and called on all citizens to observe November 11 by remembering the sacrifices of all those who fought and to rededicate themselves to promoting PEACE These are just a few of the webpages and resources available ONLINE WEBPAGES FEDERAL http://gravelocator.cem.va.gov/j2ee/servlet/NGL_v1 Department of Veterans' Affairs the Grave Locator search engine. http://archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/get-service-records.html The National Archives for requesting service records. www.archives.gov The National Archives main page. 1. Re: I Need Help in King County
    2. I don't know if it helps your search to know that Pioneer Square is not a city, but a neighborhood in Seattle. In 1972 it was a downtrodden area, the original Skid Row (now gentrified). I don't know of a town in Washington called International, but there is an International District in Seattle, the home to many Asian immigrants for more than a century. The rents then would have been cheap. If that's what the town of Independence means, and if either is the last address you have for Frank, it implies he may have been down on his luck when he died. That's only a theory, of course, as some people of means lived there too, but there were cheap boarding houses in both neighborhoods. Picturesque areas even then in Seattle, tourist destinations in daylight, and now with nightlife too. I hope you find that living descendant, who can tell you his circumstances at the time of his death. William registers for the draft in WWI in 1919 in Arkansas but lists his residence as El Paso Texas and states his profession as a "Showman" for "United Campbell Shows". He disappears after that.
