Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/pBC.2ACE/4033.1.1.1.2 Message Board Post: Thank you! Yes I have that information The 1920 King County census Jay French was close enough of a match for the Jay French I am seeking that led me to the WW1 Draft Registration for Jay Mortamore French The WW1 Draft registration information for Jay M. French led me to the cemetery information. Yes I have this information RE Golden gate Cemetery and yes I realize the address Sneath Lane is the same address as the cemetery I called the cemetery and their files had no other information to provide for Mr. French. The WA State death index deathdate for Jay M. French is March 9,1948 Unfortunately the Washington State Death certificates microfilm that would include the death certificate for Jay M. French is missing from the collection I have access to. I have made inquiries as to ordering that missing roll if possible. In the meantime an obituary for Jay M. French March 9 1948 , if found would help(possibly). I will also see what Seattle city directories are available here in Portland, keep looking for a 1930 census report for Jay French and continue a military records search. At this point I am looking for help in the Seattle area for an obituary search.

I do have his WW1 Draft registration 1917 Seattle the information provided in that is a match for the Jay I seek. The information contained in the WA death cert.for Jay M. French who died in Seattle March 9th 1948 matches the information for Jay M(Mortamore) French who died in Seattle but was buried in Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno. I called the cemetery but they have no other information. I have had a response for an obituary lookup in Seattle but am very aprreciative of your quick city directory search, thank you very much. I will keep digging. craig

French (or J. M. French) is not listed in any of those directories. He might have been living outside the city limits, but I don't see him in the 1930 census anywhere in Washington State. I presume he was the Jay M. French, 31 years old, single, born in Minnesota, living in a boarding house in Ballard (an area of Seattle in that period known for its large population of Scandanavian immigrants and their /descendants), in the 1920 census. If he continued to live in laboring class boarding houses in Seattle, perhaps the City Directory canvassers didn't include the names of those residents or missed them because they were at work.

Surnames: Wharton, Detwiler Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/pBC.2ACE/4031.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi, Vickie, A couple of people have emailed me in the last 12 hours that they see a Charles Wharton in the California death index for 1963 in Los Angeles. I am not sure if that is a match because the birthdata is not what I have except for the month of January. My records indicate he was born January 19, 1872 in Iowa to Samuel Joseph Wharton and Elma or Elmira or Almira Detwiler Wharton. However, I think I should write to California for that death record....hopefully there will be enough information on it to confirm or deny the connection. If California proves a match, I am not sure an obituary would have gotten back to a Seattle newspaper....much depends on who supplied the information. Now I think I'd best pursue the California records first before looking further in King county, Washington. I am very grateful for your interest and attempts to help me! Thank you, Vickie.

    1. Dr. Charles H. Wharton
    2. Hi! I just check the CA Death Index http://vitals.rootsweb.com/ca/death/search.cgi and found about seven Charles Whartons, four with different initials and 3 without initials. You might want to check these out, as some give the mother's maiden names. Good luck! Joe Murnane

I do not know the dates he died...am just hoping it was back in King county, Washington. There is a small chance he could have died in California but family members thought he had gone back to Washington state.
