    1. The Washington State Genealogist
    2. Washington State Genealogical Society is soliciting articles for a new journal-style periodical. Our hope for The Washington State Genealogist journal is to provide a statewide outlet for individuals or organizations to publish previously unpublished articles containing information of genealogical value about those who pioneered and developed Washington State. It is not important what a contributing organization is called or the position of an individual compiler/author. Sometime in the future we may ask that contributors be members of Washington State Genealogical Society, but that is not required now. We especially want to provide small groups who do not have their own journal for publishing access and wide coverage of their research. We would like to explore a wide variety of sources, such as family bible records; school faculty lists, student censuses and yearbooks; attendees at pioneer days, company picnics or reunions; indexes for old, unindexed local history books; newspaper lists of court actions (licenses, dissolutions, land proofing, probates, etc.); abbreviated extracts of birth, marriage and death notices, or "gossip column" notes of family interest; genealogies or ahnentafels of local or state leaders; and other information showing who was where, when, and doing what. We hope to receive enough material to publish a 30- to 40-page journal on a quarterly basis.. We wish to limit articles to no more than four pages in length, although we could serialize longer writings of particular interest. A rticles need to identify sources using footnotes or end notes, or in an introductory statement if the article is an extract from a single source. To prevent copyright infringement, sources must be in the public domain or permission must be obtained from the copyright holder if the information extracted exceeds "fair use". We would prefer articles to be sent as an email attachment in Word or WordPerfect document or Rich Text (RTF) format. Times New Roman 12-pitch font is our preference, and pages should have 1-inch margins. If you would like to send us an article for our first issue, we would like it sent to my email address no later than 31 January 2006. I hope this adequately describes our goals for The Washington State Genealogist. Please contact me if you have additional questions or suggestions, or if you wish to contribute an article. Sincerely, Bob Witherspoon PO Box 491 Bellingham, WA 98227-0491 360-734-9835 rgwspoon@aol.com

    1. Re: SIMONS
    2. I didn't catch the first posting, and my Simons connections aren't in King Co. But my brother-in-law Donald is a Simons, and I've found it an unusual spelling. He was born in SD; his father was born in MN, if I remember correctly. The family immigrated from Russia two generations before that. Ring any bells for anybody? Don is doing genealogy and would love to meet a new cousin, I am sure. He lived in So. CA for decades but is now back in SD. I do appreciate your help though very much. Yes there is a strong possibility that nothing more than a death notice will be published as there seems to be no wife or children connected to Jay. If the LDS can't come up with the missing rolll of WA State Death certs. I will indeed order the cert. through WA state, I also have two other non-French people I am seeking death certs from that same roll that makes me hold out hope that the missing roll of microfilm at my LDS,(they have all the others 1907-1952) will surface in Salt Lake City. Thanks so much,Craig

If you don't, tell me and I will get downtown one of these days. I fear that if Jay was single with no children, there may be only a death notice rather than an obituary. You may want to order a death certificate from the WA St Dept of Health.
