Was there a local newspaper that might have information about them. Local family information says there was an amusement park associated with the family--they owned it-ran it? Also Ida was postmistriss in Redondo; so it sounds like they should have been well known. Might there be city directories or something to get a little extra info...actually proof of the stories I just wrote about? Hello; I am looking for a half ancestor Uncle. Name Wesley Smith. ( and other's), Mother was Sarah Jane Pumphrey who mar. in 1875 to a Peter Smith. They lived on a acreage out of Maybe Chehalis or Centralia or Little Falls. Peter died from a wagon loaded with grain accident from his farm in abt 1885. I found abt. 3 line piece in Chehalis newspaper in 1875. Wesley had a Brother, James who was killed from a fall down the Log Flume out of Toledo, I believe when he was abt. 24 yrs. old. James was adopted by his grandparents after his mother mar .to Paden Cox Baldwin abt 1886/7 in Chehalis Court House. They lived in Little Falls( Vader) Vader) Lewis Co. Wesley went to live with his Pumphrey ,grandfather's brother Francis ( FRANK) Pumphrey & family as he didn't like his grandmother.. After these boys Grandfather, John Hamilton Pumphrey died in 1900 I think, and the adopted grandson, James Smith died from the accident in the flume, abt 1900/01, . the wife ( of John H.) , Martha Morgan Pumphrey filed a court paper forcing her dau. Sarah Jane Pumphrey Smith Baldwin to sell her home she and sons, James and Wesly inherited from her 1st spouse, Peter Smith. Sarah Jane and 2nd spouse, Paden Cox Baldwin and 7 chi. by 2nd spouse, were then forced out of their home so her own , Mother , Martha,( of Sarah Jane), ( could get the share of money from the sale that was James who she adopted) , and her family had no home. Martha, who with Sarah's father , John H. Pumphrey had adopted the James Smith and Martha wanted the money. Martha then with the money made some kind of deal to live with her deceased spouse's brother's family. The Francis Pumphrey. family. It didn't last too long as Martha was not about to stand the noise of children etc. and she left and went to Winlock to live. It was not to her liking to live in the same house with her dau. Sarah & family so they could have a home that they had lived in since 1887. This happened in abt early 1900's of 1901/3. Sarah died of T B in about 1905/6 leaving 7 living ch plus the 1, Smith, Wesley, and 1 deceased baby born just before her death. . Her death date has not been found exactly. She was first bur. in the Pumphrey Family plot at the other brother , of John and Francis(Frank). (3rd. bro. name William Pumphrey).'s property in Olequa. Later, after William died and property was sold, all the graves were moved to various other cemeteries in Lewis and Cowlitz, counties in abt 1924. Some went to Little Falls Cem. out of Vader. Sarah has a concrete stone there with. " Sarah Jane Baldwin, mother of James Smith," only engraved on it. No vitals on it. I have repeatedly tried to find a death date. One dau., Sarah "Sadie" Baldwin Murray said she was but 6 yrs. old. and she b in 1999 . that would give the yr. abt. 1905. My father said he was 7 when she died., he b in 1898. another son was 3 yrs, being b in 1902 as 3 yrs. younger than Sarah was. and he was 3 when mother died. A more sad story about these 7 ch. left motherless came about after her death. Father Paden Cox Baldwin mar . in 1908 to abt 18 yr old Minnie Butler from Yelm , Wa in Thurston co.. Minnie gave in 1909, birth to another son, name unk.. and Minnie died after or during.. Left the baby boy making Paden with 8 ch. He gave the baby boy to Minnie's parents and they took him and moved back to Kansas where they had come from. Later in abt. 1935, I found he had married and come to Toledo looking for his other siblings and none was found in the area. He talked to and found a descend cousin on Baldwin side of RANT MULLINS. I talked with Rant in 1986 but he couldn't remember his first name but Baldwin was his last name. In abt. 1909/1910, Paden placed the 7 ch. in a place for children without a mother I was told boys went to maybe a place in Winlock or Chehalis and 2 girls went to St Marys out of Toledo. These girls were abt 14 and 8. One day the sisters there spanked Sarah ( Sadie) and Hazel the oldest didn't like the spanking and beat up on2 of the sisters and put one of them in a hospital. They after were moved to a Catholic home in Seattle. My father ended up on a wheat ranch in Lind Wa. and Robert ended up in Idaho.... In abt 1986 I found a cousin, living in an apt. in Winlock. dau of Earl Baldwin, and she told me she and her Ex spouse, last name Potter, used to pick up the Wesley Smith and give him rides into Vader and she said he was crippled in one leg. She said he never mar. till past 40 yrs. and mar . to a widow in Vader , her ch. were grown. She had not known that he was her own half Uncle and a half bro. to Earl her, own father. I am locking for anyone who is connected to any of these people. Sarah's sister Mary mar. to John Layton and also d. of Tb as well as her dau. Mary Layton. Another sister Martha b 1851 had moved there from ILL after the other's had,. and also d of TB. someone has that Martha d as a child but she did NOT as I found her mar and living in ILL to a Bland, who d. in a logging accident in Ore. where he had gone to work. They later moved to Lewis Co. Wa. I found and met a living descendant of Martha's She remar. after Bland's death.. If you know of or can find any info on these people I would greatly appreciate it. Genealogists have always been the prey of con artists... and there is always someone willing to do the work to track them down... From another list with permission.... Darilee (goin' to be some cross posting... my apologies in advance) *************************************** Album seller settles case Marketing of family books to change By Rachel Brand, Rocky Mountain News (with Permission) February 10, 2006 An Arapahoe County (Colorado) company accused of deceptively promoting genealogy albums will pay a $30,000 fine, cover $25,000 in legal fees and revamp how it markets its Family Yearbooks. Maxwell MacMaster and his Parker-based company MorphCorp. advertised the $45 "family history" books as unique to an individual's surname. The company promised its yearbooks would summarize 2,000 years of a particular family's history. But the tomes were not published annually and contained no pictures of the buyer's family members. "The 'Family Yearbook' was nothing more than a photocopy of the same material deceptively sold to thousands of consumers," Attorney General John Suthers, who negotiated the settlement, said in a statement. Jeffery Scism, a San Bernardino, Calif., genealogist who has tracked MacMaster for years, said the fine is puny when compared with the hundreds of thousands of dollars he believes - MorphCorp raked in. "The only fair solution would be to seize the business, liquidate the assets and put them in a holding company," said Scism, who lists the company on his "Genealogy Hall of Shame" Web site, http://blacksheep.rootsweb.com/. Nobody answered the phone Thursday at MorphCorp, 1181 S. Parker Road, and a message left with the company's outside counsel, Burton Wherry of Denver's Wherry & Carlstead LLC, was not returned. Here's how the books worked: If you were a customer named John Smith, MacMaster would send you a letter identifying himself as your distant relative. He would promise to sell you a yearbook authored by someone in the Smith clan and containing jokes and recipes from the Smith family. "Essentially what they'd do is stick a few telephone listings in there and names changed from the Census Bureau," Scism said. MacMaster is now barred from pretending to be related to potential customers and advertising that a "contributing family member" wrote the text. In addition, MorphCorp. must provide refunds to those who request them. If the company refuses, customers may complain to the Colorado consumer line, 1-800-222-4444. brandr@RockyMountainNews.com or 303-892-5269 bookstorelady@prodigy.net http://www.rootsweb.com/~waskagit - Skagit USGW http://www.thirdstbooks.com - 3rd St. Book Exchange http://www.facesfromthewall.com - Faces From the Wall - Vietnam/Washington

I am searching for the burial location of Elva Black Adams who died December 18, 1977 in King County and was buried on December 21, 1977. Her obituary says the service was to be at "Parker's Burien Memorial Chapel." I am unable to find a funeral home by that name in today's internet phone listings. Does anyone know what that 1977 funeral home name might be today? Thank you. Ron Klein
