I saw your Smith surname in your message and was hoping you could shed some light on my Smith family in Grays Harbor County. I'm interested in the descendents (ancestors, too) of Captain Isaiah Smith who died in 1916 in Satsop Washington. My great-grandfather was his brother, Cap F E Smith. The following is from his obituary clipping. "After a career of any years in command of vessels in the Pacific Coast trade, Captain Isaiah Smith, one of the best-known shipmasters in the Northwest, died at his home in Satsop, Washington., January 20, 1916. He had retired from active service about a year ago. He was buried beside the body of his wife in Montesano. Captain Smith leaves a borther, Captain F.E. Hutchinson, who seems to have disappearded off the face of the earth after 1904. 1.Grant was born Oct 1864 somewhere in Illinois. He married in Kelso, Cowlitz County, WA in 1892 to Eliza Jantzen and had three boys Harry, Arthur and oliver. The family moved to Satsop, Grays Harbor County,WA in early 1900 as I found them in the census there. The 1903-1904 Polk directory lists Grant C. Hutchinson as a schoolteacher in Satsop. I haven't been able to locate anything else on him. I have been searching for 9 years now and I am unable to locate anything on him. His wife Eliza remarried in Mar of 1908 to Irvin Urquhart. I haven't been able to find divorce papers for Eliza and Grant or death records for Grant. I was told that Grant and Eliza divorced, but I can't find this record. 2.Grant's son Harry first married Bessie Mae Divine June 1911 and they moved to Oregon for a short time where their daughter Ethel Mae Hutchinson was born. Bessie's mother Pricilla Mae was a midwife in the Montseano area. Harry and Bessie were divorced in 1922. Harry remarried LAURA I am guesing in late 1922 or early 1923. Harry died Oct 1923 leaving widow Laura and daughter Mae to morn him. The 1924 Polk directory list Laura as working at the Broadway Pharmacy. I would like to know who Laura was and what happened to her. I don't have a maiden name for this Laura. 3.Grant's son Arthur married Lucinda (Lola) CHALMERS. Her parents were James CHALMERS and Nellie ENDICOTT. 4.Grant's son Oliver died at the age of 18 or 19.
