Wages so I hope you’re still out there and interested. I found the online reference about his horse stealing. It comes from Agnew”s (Samuel Andrew) Papers. 1847-1902. 43 volumes and ca. 120 items on 14 reels microfilm. The online transcription can be found at http://www.lib.unc.edu/mss/inv/a/Agnew,Samuel_Andrew.html Reverend Samuel Agnew’s diary is only transcribes through June 30, 1864. “Lit Wages” is referred to on the diary pages 71, 204 (his horse stealing & the band of others page), 214 ( his arrest page), 215 ( his escape page), 251 ( another horse is missing so Wages are suspected page). Samuel Agnew’s writing does not seem to give too much sympathy to those stealing the horses in this area at this and Samuel Agnew was not a Union sympathizer. Littleton does not appear anywhere after 1865. He and his wife, Mary Caroline, lived in the dwelling next to his father and mother, John G. and Mary E. Wages. I suspect that after Littleton left or died that John G. Wages, Mary Caroline Wages’ father-in-law became a father figure to the young ones such as Bedford Forrest Wages ( 1870 census says he’s 5 yrs. old). These younger children probably considered their grandpa more as a father figure and this may be where all this “other” speculation comes into play. As has already been noted, the Littleton P. Wages living in Missouri is NOT our Littleton M. Wages. Both are in the 1860 census. Littleton M. Wages is listed in the Tippah Co., MS census, which was taken on June 28, 1860. Littleton P. Wages is listed in the Sullivan, MO. 1860 census record, which was taken on August 9, 1860. So our Littleton M. Wages did not run off to Missouri and remarry. I can’t find Mary Caroline Wages after the 1870 census, either. My GGGrandfather was Bedford Forrest Wages. If you know what happened to her please let me know. If you or anyone else has information about the Littleton M. Wages and his wife Mary Caroline Wages please post or contact me at andenola@swbell.net. Thanks Jean A.
