    1. [WADE-L] Kilnsey Old Hall
    2. Robert Wade
    3. One of the earliest Wade families who can be traced forward to the present ( as opposed to occasional names on ancient documents) came from the Kilnsey area in Yorkshire. This was probably the birthplace of Armigal Wade , father of Sir William who was Governor of the Tower of London among other things. The Old Hall there has recently been restored after about 150 years when it was unoccupied and used as an agricultural barn. I was lucky enough to see it while in the early stages of restoration. The nearby church in Conistone has references to the Wades who lived in the area from well before the 1640s (when the Hall was rebuilt as it stands now) to c1740s and the parish registers record many Wade births and deaths from these earlier times as well. There is now a website with pictures of the Hall and surrounding area at http://members.tripod.com/kilnsey/ . If you want more info the owners can be contacted from that site. Hope you enjoy this look back in history of the Wade family ! Robert Wade in Brisbane
