Fellow Wades, I have been seeing a lot of you trying to tie your line into Edward Wade of Virginia. And while I have no information about that line I thought you might be interested to know there was a very early Edward Wade in GA. In A LIST OF THE EARLY SETTLERS OF GEORGIA edited by E. Merton Coulter and Albert B. Saye in Part II "Persons Who went from Europe to Georgia on Their Own Account", page 100, entry #1211 reads as follows,"Wade, Edward- A broken cheesemonger. He had a grant of 100 acres 7 Oct. 1734". Also #1212, "Wade, John - Servt. to Hugh Frazer; arrived 10 Jan 1733-34". If any of you are having trouble with an early Edward or John you might want to check out some of the southeastern counties of GA. While these are the only two Wades listed in the book, I will be happy to do look-ups for other surnames. I know there is a will of Robert Wade in Halifax Co Va that lists a son named Edward. So, at this point I don't think anyone can say for sure. Edward was a very common name in the Wade line. I do have that he was born in Virginia, though. There are 4 sons that I don't have who they married. Does anyone know who Edward Jr., Richard, James, and Thomas married??? Did I see in one of the emails that Mary Clement's father was Thomas Clement?? Thank you for sharing this info, Loraine. It may be helpful. While I'm not sure I'm looking forward to determining that I'm a descendent of a broken cheesemonger, it does make me wonder; (1) just how one became a broken cheesemonger, and (2) why a King would grant 100 acres to a brokee, and (3) how a broken cheesemonger afforded transatlantic passage. So many questions to be answered.
