And while I have no information about that line I thought you might be interested to know there was a very early Edward Wade in GA. In A LIST OF THE EARLY SETTLERS OF GEORGIA edited by E. Merton Coulter and Albert B. Saye in Part II "Persons Who went from Europe to Georgia on Their Own Account", page 100, entry #1211 reads as follows,"Wade, Edward- A broken cheesemonger. He had a grant of 100 acres 7 Oct. 1734". Also #1212, "Wade, John - Servt. to Hugh Frazer; arrived 10 Jan 1733-34". If any of you are having trouble with an early Edward or John you might want to check out some of the southeastern counties of GA. While these are the only two Wades listed in the book, I will be happy to do look-ups for other surnames. I know there is a will of Robert Wade in Halifax Co Va that lists a son named Edward. So, at this point I don't think anyone can say for sure. Edward was a very common name in the Wade line. I do have that he was born in Virginia, though. There are 4 sons that I don't have who they married. Does anyone know who Edward Jr., Richard, James, and Thomas married??? Did I see in one of the emails that Mary Clement's father was Thomas Clement?? June, It is my understanding that Savannah(Chatham Co)has the existing colonial records for the state. Original settlements were primarily along the coast except for Augusta (Richmond Co) which was founded very early as a fort and trading post. The state archives in Atlanta has the earliest wills on microfilm. I have not researched Edward specifically, but have checked colonial land records for Wades in general and found the following: 1761 - Nehemiah Wade - St. Paul's Parish - 300 acres 1770 - Nehemiah Wade - Burke Co.- "long time in Ga., has wife, 5 children and 1 slave, asks for 250 acres near Thos. Bolsh(Balsh?)" 1772 - Hezekiah Wade - St. Paul's Parish - 100 acres 1774 - Nehemiah Wade - St. George's Parish - 250 acres 1774 - Jeremiah Wade - Burke Co. - 250 acres There are more for Nehemiah after the Revolution, in Wilkes and Washington Counties, Joseph and Samuel in Burke Co., and Edward, Peyton and Thomas in Greene. Co. prior to the 1790 census. Sources for these references are: INDEX TO HEADRIGHT AND BOUNTY GRANTS OF GEORGIA 1756-1909; THE FAMILIES OF BURKE COUNTY 1755-1855 A CENSUS, by Davis and Lucas; GREENE COUNTY INDEX TO DEEDS (GA Archives); AN INDEX TO GEORGIA TAX DIGEST 1789-1799 (GA Archives) Hope this helps.
