The James F. Smith book, 1832 CHEROKEE LAND LOTTERY OF GEORGIA is back in print and I bought a copy. This is the land lottery that granted 140 acres of land to lucky drawers in the former Cherokee lands in NW GA. There were 4 sections laid out and divided into 93 districts (60 land districts and 33 gold districts.) This book lists the lucky drawers and has maps that show where each grant is located within a particular district. In late 1831, these Cherokee lands were designated as Cherokee Co., GA but in 1832 and 1833, 10 additional counties were formed in the area: Cass (renamed Bartow in 1862), Cobb, Floyd, Forsyth, Gilmer, Lumpkin, Murray, Paulding. Union, and Walker. The 14 Wades listed in the index to this book are shown below with following information: names(page # in book); tax company, county; county in which grant located:Cherokee section:district WADE's orphans (388);Allison's,PIKE:FLOYD:IV:12 Ann WADE,widow (400);Royster's, FRANKLIN: WALKER:IV:14 Edward WADE (227);Stewart's, WARREN; MURRAY:III:10 Henry WADE (116);M. I'd love to know if anyone finds their WADE here. If you do, I'll be glad to tell you where your WADE is located on the maps. (Use my personal Email address.) The lucky drawers for the 33 districts of gold lots are listed in Silas E. Lucas, THE 1832 GOLD LOTTERY OF GEORGIA. Does anyone have access to this Book? I'd also like to know which Wades were listed therein. Best regards to all, Theron Smith
