Family traditions among descendants of Henry Jackson Wade indicated rather definitely that he was one of 6 siblings (Rachel, Roe, Sarah, Frank, Matilda Ann, and Henry Jackson.) I was able to find the following 6 Wade families living close together in 1850 Cass Co., GA [became Bartow Co. in 1862.]: -Rachel WADE (1815, SC), died 1850 before the census was taken. Wife of Rev. George Washington TUMLIN. -James M. Wade(1816/7,SC) -Sarah WADE (1819, SC), wife of Charles RANDALL. -Benjamin F. WADE (1820/4,SC) -Matilda Ann WADE (1826/7, GA), wife of Jeremiah ISBELL. -Henry Jackson WADE (prob. Dec 1830), living in 1850 Househild of G.W. Tumlin. The two lists matched well except for (Roe and Frank) versus (James M. and Benjamin F.) Actually it can now be shown that the two lists refer to the same 6 children. Benjamin F. was almost certainly Benjamin Franklin - that's FRANK. Shortly after I first found James M. in 1840 and 1850 Cass Co., and saw that he was born abt. 1816/7, I identified him as our ancestor and decided his full name was probably James Madison Wade - James M. had a grandson named Madison Riley Wade and James Madison was President of the US through Mar. 1817. But (1) since James Monroe was elected President in 1816 and began serving in Mar. 1817, AND, (2) since there were strong indications that James M. was part of a family group that included an unidentified son called "Roe" WADE, the real situation suddenly forced itself on me: Oldest son in this family was named James Monroe WADE which suggests the diminutive, "Roe." Next step of course is to identify parents for these 6 children. The most promising answer is that the father is Henry Wade of 1830 Gwinnett Co., GA. See my recent post for comments regarding that choice. Comments and questions are welcome. Theron Smith.
