    2. Robert Wade
    3. Georgia, I believe Stuart C Wade died in 1901, presumably quite suddenly as he was at work at the NYPL the year before. That may explain why his papers are apparently not as ordered and completed as one would expect from reading his book. What he refers to as Volume 1, which is Chapters 1 to 3 ( I think), was published in a limited edition of 1000 copies, whereas Volume 2 had only 500 copies. This is no doubt attributable to what he describes as the poor response from the Wade community in USA and England at the time of his research, when he complained at the large number of Wade families that both did not reply to his questionnaire and also the large number who ordered the first publication, but then did not pay for it ( whether they got the book without paying is not clear.) As I told Debbie last year when I first mentioned this source to her, I saw both volumes in c1964 at a Wade family residence ( no relation of mine) in Somerset in England. Unfortunately that was before photocopiers were readily available and I had to transcribe the part I was interested in by longhand! All the best, Robert Wade in Brisbane, Australia. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Georgiamhh@aol.com> To: <WADE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 04, 2001 5:31 AM Subject: Re: [WADE-L] Stuart C. 1. Re: [WADE-L] Stuart C. Wade
    2. Dear Robert Wade: Thank you for this valuable information about Stuart C. Wade. I inherited his first book number one that SCW signed and numbered. Last year, I purchased his book, The Wade Genealogy 1900, that included four chapters of about 400 pages. The publisher had taken the same pages as my book one and made chapter one. It was my understanding that SCW wrote 10 or 11 little 100 page books like book one that had approximately 100 pages. If this is correct, I do not know of any one that would know where the missing manuscripts are at this time. However, I do know there are over 2700 frames on the four rolls of microfilm that I purchased this spring, that the New York City Public Library microfilmed at least a half century ago. No idea if this is all that was in SCWs files at the time of his death, but I do think it is valuable information for the history of the Wade's everywhere to learn about the origin of the Wade's in early England, and the ones who came to America. SCW Preface: "The fact that up to the present, no one has published a connected account of a family, famous not only in England, but in America, should be sufficient excuse, if excuse be needed, for the compilation of this book. A family which has produced Armigel Waad, Secretary of the Privy Council to King Henry VIII of England, and one of the first Englishmen to Land in America; his son Sir William Waad, who had so leading a part in the colonization of Virginia." He was named the English Columbus. Armigel and son William Waad bought the Bermuda Islands in the 1500s. I am still trying to prove my Edward Wade born 1611 is really a descendant to that great Sir William Waad the Governor of the Tower of London in the late 1500s. I needed the Parish in which Edward Wade was born to further my search. In 1600 there were over 100 Parish's just inside the City of London. These were not in alpha order and that was the main thing that made me realize that, I could spend the rest of my life in London, just looking for all of the information that Stuart C. Wade had already done in his lifetime. My cousin will be making his second trip to London in August, to do more research on our Edward Wade b. 1611. He has found the brothers that also came to York Co. Virginia in 1635 on different Ships. This will help in finding their parents. Everything that I do is only for one thing, and that is locating the parents of Edward Wade. Believe if his descendants will work together, we can solve this puzzle. Cousin, Georgia Hornbuckle Hendrix Dallas, Texas

    2. Hello, I have been researching the Wade Family for some time and have traced some of the family members to the Preble, Darke Counties in Ohio. John Wade and his wife (first name unknown, Harden) had nine known children; Nancy (married to Thomas Gray), Mary Martha "Patsy" ( married to Robert Harding), Joseph (married to Barbara Jordan), John Junior (married to Martha "Patsy" Owens), Greenbury (married to Polly Smith), Drusilla (married to Henry Bozworth), Sophia (married to Evan Watkins, Jr.), Sarah (married to James Owens) and William. They all lived in West Augusta District prior to 1789. John Wade and family members moved to Nelson County, VA (later became KY). Long story short, Drusilla Wade Bosworth and some of her siblings moved to Ohio. If you think there is a connection, please write to me at WWade92271@aol.com or WWade600@hotmail.com. Mary Ann

I do not have the date he died, but believe it was early 1900s. It includes SCWs personal correspondence with Wade families. He had a form that he mailed and they responded with the completed form. He had marriage records, military records. New York City Newspaper clippings. A letter from General George Washington to Colonel Nathaniel Wade during the American Revolution, regarding Benedict Arnold. There are pictures of houses, buildings, books, etc. I think perhaps, the NYC Library microfilmed these 2700 items that were in his files. Does anyone know when the first microfilm machine was built? I went to London last summer, to find the parents of my Edward Wade b. 1611 in London and died in York Co. Virginia. They definitely knew of Stuart C. Wade at the Guildhall Library. 2. Doug, Yes Thank You for getting back to me. So far I don`t think that we connect. This James W Wade has given me gray hairs. I can not find him in Illinios census for 1860 [he was born in 1859] but I can find him in the 1900 census for Arkansas, that say he was born in Ill. and both his parents were born in Tenn. I sent for the death record hopefully that will have some clues.
