I had contact a year or so ago with Ophelia. They had moved into town and it was during this transition. She was kind enough to copy some of her works for my mother at that time in an area that needed clarified in mom's research. I was unaware that she had cancer. She was a very vigilant researcher with DAR credits to her name. The Wade clan will miss her. She was a fellow Missourian. Robert Wade Kansas City, MO
I did forward Sunday - May never hear from him. Just don't know. Hope he will write from time to time. Last time I talked to her the cancer had gone to her head. She really knew a lot about his family. Regards, Georgia Hornbuckle Edward b. 1611 > Edward 1640 > Andrew 1670 > Andrew Sr. 1700 > Wm 1740 > Henderson Sr 1768 > Henderson Jr 1818 > and Grandpa
Georgia: I, too, worked with Ophelia and felt honored to receive some of the vast knowledge she had on so many Wade families. I hope you might send this little note on to Jeff Wade. Rachel, I believe the information on Pliney Wade was originally compiled by Jim Farmer. In his notes they are showing in the Vestry Books as Waid or Ward. Jim's explanation was that "Wade" was sometimes spelled "Waid" and when they used quill pins the "i" sometimes appeared as an "r". I don't have the address handy for the site of Jim Farmer's information but perhaps others who read this list can provide the site address. Charley Wade

And while I have no information about that line I thought you might be interested to know there was a very early Edward Wade in GA. In A LIST OF THE EARLY SETTLERS OF GEORGIA edited by E. Merton Coulter and Albert B. Saye in Part II "Persons Who went from Europe to Georgia on Their Own Account", page 100, entry #1211 reads as follows,"Wade, Edward- A broken cheesemonger. He had a grant of 100 acres 7 Oct. 1734". Also #1212, "Wade, John - Servt. to Hugh Frazer; arrived 10 Jan 1733-34". If any of you are having trouble with an early Edward or John you might want to check out some of the southeastern counties of GA. While these are the only two Wades listed in the book, I will be happy to do look-ups for other surnames. I do have that he was born in Virginia, though. There are 4 sons that I don't have who they married. Does anyone know who Edward Jr., Richard, James, and Thomas married??? I did talk with him the last day in England and we discussed: Edward Waade married Anna' Goodman 9 April 1610 Saint Martin In the Fields, Westminister, London, England. A cousin in Iowa has hired a professional researcher in England and they had also found this file. This is worth pursuing. Since we now know that: George, Robert, George and John also came to York Co, VA from London on different ships and they were brothers. Perhaps their descendants belong to the Wade List and have some information that would help. Stuart C. Wade's book list in the 1640 York Co, VA Census on page 84: Armiger, our Edward, Thomas, William, John, Richard, James, Joseph and Mildred. Unable to locate the name of the ship for James and Joseph. The Ships Passenger list that I copied in London even had my German ancestors listed and they sailed from Rotterdam. So, maybe these were too young to be listed in the Index? Yet, Edward's brother George was 19 and he was listed. Another no relation was 16. When you see Bob, please tell him hello for me. Best regards, Georgia Hornbuckle Hendrix Dallas, Texas > > >

I must add before you close on this subject, that it is really good to find that while we few souls in the Antipodes are asleep, all our N American cousins are wide awake ( or reasonably so) debating such matters. Thanks to the wonders of the WWW, we can enjoy a whole host of your dialogue all with one download of emails. Paul, I for one, do not think you need to apologise as there is great value in having some lighthearted exchanges interspersed amidst the serious business concerning our namesakes. Only with some light (er) hearted messages can the frustrations of the brickwalls and missing records be put into their true perspective. Keep up the silliness from time to time Paul, and the chances of finding the English connection to Edward are all the greater ! All the best, Robert in Brisbane, Australia ...........Still hoping to connect to Edward's line that remained in The Old World. ----- Original Message ----- From: Paul Hathcoat <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, August 29, 2001 8:46 AM Subject: Re: [WADE-L] Mongering > I started this silliness, for which I apologize.
