    3. At 1:34 PM on 1/19/2002 I wrote to the list: >I believe that my James Wade married someone, had nine >children by her, she died, and he married Sally F. Bailey who was Robert >Lane's widow. Well, know I know it's true. Today, at the Barren County Clerk's office I found a deed (deed book L, pages 591-2) dated 25 Sep 1829, from David Lane to James Wade. In it David is selling his rights to part of his father's estate to James Wade. The relevant portion reads like this: "...my undivided interest in and to sixty three acres of land lying and being in the County of Barren on Nobob Creek, which was laid off and assigned to Sarah F. Lane, widow of my father Robert Lain dec'd as her dower, I being entitled to one equal eighth part, and I the said Lane do hereby sell and transfer unto the said Wade all my interest in the personal estate which was assigned to the said Sarah F. Lane, now the wife of the said Wade as her dower in the personal estate of my father..." Just to be clear, this is James Wade, son of Ballenger and Sarah (Watts) Wade. Charlie

    3. Roberta, I have a Joseph Wade, Jr. married to a Sarah in Fountain, Co., Indiana. Their children were Absolum, Andrew Morgan, Jesse, Joseph Robert, and I believe, a Sarah. There are supposedly a couple of other girls whose names I cannot find. they then moved to Iowa. Joseph Wade, Jr's obituary lists an Andrew J. Wade and James T. Wade as individuals who purchased estate items. Dave Roberta Simpson wrote: > Hi Eldon, I am wondering if you might have an Andrew Wade m Malinda > Cole listed in your Wade collecton of names ?? 1. [WADE] IGI Database search for the UK
    2. John A Hansen
    3. Dear All: There is a IGI search program for the UK. This has been introduced yesterday. I checked it out today and it works fine. It allows you to search the IGI by parish and returns ALL the IGI records for that surname in that Microfilm. It covers both birth and marriages. It obviously took a lot of work to develop and cross\ index the IGI records by Parish in a database. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm#Page Best Regards John A Hansen Admin

    1. [WADE] FW: New MSN Messenger Worm > Not Cool
    2. John A Hansen
    3. Dear All: Here is a real early warning of a new Virus fresh from the testing Labs. You already know about not opening attachments etc from people you don't know etc etc. The format of this new worm has been in development for some time and you have all heard me talk and write about it. So don't open any URL's that you don't know. The AV software programs may be late as well in getting updates out quick enough. But at least update your AV software 2 to 3 times a week for the next few weeks. I do mine daily. There is a scheduler on most AV software and I just have it set to automatically download the latest every night at 3 am. While the first pass here may only be a "show off" piece I have seen vicious programs with deadly payloads that really do some damage and obtain key info that is then forwarded to foreign locations. The first wave will probably be labeled xxxxx.cool.html So watch for the "cool" part first. Later the url will carry other words or links that are designed to appeal to you in some way. Our genealogy hobby will be wide open. Be suspicious. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that there isn'tsomeone out to get you. Being paranoid about virii may keep you out of trouble.. This wave of virus attempts may be around for awhile. Best Regards John A Hansen -----Original Message----- From: Drew Smith [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2002 5:10 AM To: [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: New MSN Messenger Worm Heya folks, Ok, let's try this again, with a little more time spent on my side. ;) Tried to submit this earlier today, but got bounced for attaching the worm source to the message. So, this time, I'm attaching a URL instead, where you can go get the source if you want to see it. This worm *ripped* through our office today - it's one part flaw in Microsoft's security model and one part social engineering; it is a NON-MALICIOUS worm, but it effectively proves the concept, and I don't foresee more than a week or two before there's a nasty version. We've been calling it the "cool worm", after the original filename, "cool.html". I said *ripped*. I meant it. 40 people affected/infected in under 30 seconds. That's the dangerous part, I didn't even have time to go to the other room to let coworkers know what was up. The worm shows up as an MSN Messenger message that says "Go To http://www.masenko-media.net/cool.html NoW !!!". The user, obviously, clicks the URL, which takes them to the site, where the malicious code sits. The code opens the MSN Contacts list, then messages every contact with the message "Go To http://www.masenko-media.net/cool.html NoW !!!". Think about that for a second. Anyhow - the worm does nothing nasty, but the source to the (now down) masenko-media.net site also mails the hostname and user agent of the connecting host to "[email protected]". Looks to me like an experiment that got loose from the lab, but it demonstrates a *dangerous* flaw. Why can a webpage open the contacts list in the first place? What other hooks does MSN Messenger provide? Can you harvest email addresses from a contact list? Too many scary implications. Worm source (with a few important lines removed, so that it doesn't start popping up *everywhere*), available at: http://riotnrrd.com/cool-source.zip Cheers, - Drew. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This list is provided by the SecurityFocus ARIS analyzer service. 1. [WADE] Who is the father of Robert WADE, Sr. of Halifax, VA, b. Abt. 1700?
    2. Robert Wade, Sr. of Halifax, VA is my 5th great grandfather. Does anyone have any proof as to who his father was? I recently searched the Internet and CD-ROM databases such as Ancestry-World Connect, LDS Family Search, FTM, Wade Mailing List Archives, Surname Forum, etc., and found the following ancestors listed for Robert, Sr. (1) Robert, Sr.>Andrew>Edward II>Edward (2) Robert, Sr.>James>Edward II>Edward (3) Robert, Sr.>John>Edward II>Edward (4) Robert, Sr.>Richard>Edward II>Edward (4) Robert, Sr.>Richard>Edward>Zaccarisas All of this is very suspicious to me because Robert, Sr. had 7 sons, and none of them are named Andrew, James, or Richard. He did have a son named John, but the person whose database had John said she was not sure who the actual father was and randomly picked John. To my way of thinking, the most probably given name for Robert, Sr.'s father would be "William," the name of Robert, Sr.'s oldest son, since the tradition of naming the first son after the father's father was popular at the time. 1. [WADE] Scottish Clan and Sept DNA testing proposals
    2. John A Hansen
    3. Dear All: There is an emerging interest in looking at the possibility of developing a database of the DNA markers for the Scottish Clans and Septs. The Scottish clans are very unique in that the Clans have been identified and family relationships tracked for hundreds of years. Some Clan family have documented histories stretching back to before 1000 AD ( and some back to 500AD) . So this leads to some interesting possibilities of identifying current clan and sept family members and determining if the Scottish ancestry line can be identified. Some have cautioned: be careful because you may find out that you are not who you think you are :-). Non-paternity events were as frequent then as they are now. There is also an interesting mailing list here on Rootsweb : [email protected] It turns out that a couple of factors make this a very interesting study for the Clans to be involved in. A: The mtDNA passes down from mother to daughter only. So the matriarch of the family becomes clearly identified and traceable. Scottish history is one of the few in the world where female lineage was often documented. Note that non paternity events don't occur in this DNA since obviously the mother knows her daughter is her offspring. B: The Y DNA passes from father to son. There we can again provide a clear line of potential coordination between the written documentation and the DNA markers. There are some other fine points of the DNA identification and you can find out a lot more in the archives of the mailing list. Anybody that is really interested in participating should please reply to me at the email address below or reply to this message post. We need about 6-10 people for each group to make it meaninful. I will made arrangements to have this study posted as well. Please send or list only your surname , contact info and potential Clan association. I don't want to clog up the archives with a lot of "me too" emails and board posts. :-) Any comments or questions are appropriate to post. Someone will then contact you for further details and how to proceed. Please note there will probably be cost of some amount for the DNA test. I don't know what that amount is for the test but it is probably about $250. My initial survey indicates that we will want the 23 marker DNA test to get some definitive answers. I expect to get more details next week. Please feel free to pass this message along to other mailing lists and boards that may have a high per centage of Scottish Clan or Sept descendants. Should be an interesting database over the months and years :-) Was that my Chief ??? Best Regards John A Hansen [email protected] Clan Board and List Admin

For about the last year and a half, I have thought that this George was son of Davis Caleb Wade (b.1812, Greenville Co., SC and 1st wife, Florence Lucinda Ivey (b. GA, 1831). This placement is almost certainly incorrect.. Davis and Florence had a son George Washington Wade, b. 14 Feb 1837 from family records. From 1840 and 1850, Davis is found in DeKalb Co., GA; in 1860/1870/1880 in Fulton Co., GA which was formed in 1853 from the western part of DeKalb Co. and a small area from Campbell Co. Intensive research in 1860 and 1870 GA censuses convinced me that this George was the one who m. Sarah Ann Bloucher in DeKalb Co., GA in 1865 and was found in 1870 DeKalb Co., GA and 1880 DeKalb Co., AL [not GA.] >From more recent GA census research, I have found convincing evidence to allow presenting the family of "our" George as follows: 1. <umknown> Wade of SC. 2. James Madison Wade (b. 1816/1, SC); m. Amanda ------ (b. 1820/1, SC) Found 1840 Carroll Co., GA (110002-0001); 1850 Cass Co., GA; the other adult in 1840 probably a brother - maybe Jackson. 3. George WADE b. 1837 GA m. Monna Elizabeth ------ (maybe had two wives.) 13 children - listed in a recent post. 3. William Wade b. abt. 1841 GA 3. James S. Wade b. abt. 1843 GA; dau. Mary M. 2. Jackson Wade b. 1819/9 SC m. Mary ----- [1850 Cass Co., GA] 2. Benjamin L. Wade b. 1821/2 SC m. Elizabeth ----- [1850/1860 Cass Co., GA; 1870 Bartow Co., GA]] (Children: Henry, Susan, James, Sarah, William, Nancy, Millie) The counties of Chatooga, Gordon, Cass, and Floyd (county seat: Rome) are all near Rome, GA [the largest city in this area] and persons in all these counties are often said to be fron near Rome, GA and are sometimes placed as actually being from Floyd Co. even though they may be from a neighboring county. Some of these may be of the same branch as the one described above. Note especially the following families: (A) Joseph Allen Wade b. 1824/5 (Debra and Linda's ancestor) were in Gordon Co., GA in 1850 (just north of Cass; NE of Floyd Co.) (B) Solomon Wade (Julie's ancestor) b. 1829/30 GA in Floyd Co., 1860; killed in the Civil War. [Where was he in 1850? Where was his widow in 1870/1880?] His son, John Calvin Wade was in Cherokee Co., AL in 1880 as was our George. Since Solomon named a dau Amanda, it's tempting to tentatively place him as son of James M. but the respective ages appear to be incompatible. The only other Solomon Wade (b. 1814/5, GA) I've found in GA was in 1850 Warren Co., GA. There's a large group of Wades in Warren Co. and neighboring Columbia Co. who appear to have been there since the 1780s. So if Solomon in Floyd Co. is of these Wades, we don't expect him to be closely related to the the James M. family of Wades who came to GA from SC about 1830. I plan to do more work in GA and SC on the branch of interest and would appreciate comments or questions from anyone interested. Best regards, Theron Smith.

I wrote to the DAR to see if they would share names of others who joined under Col. John Wade. They sent me 2 names. I wrote snail mail to both; one did not answer and the other wrote back & said she was not interested in sharing info or corresponding.
