A small purse-size Bible was handed down through the family of Emma Wade Donald, daughter of James A. Wade of Georgia. The only notation in it is "Nancy W. Renfro 1820". Does this ring a bell with anyone? Loraine [email protected]

Does anyone have any information related to this gravesite. I went to the area a couple of summers ago, but was unable to find anyone who could give me specific directions to the grave. I have census information on Abraham Waid back to the 1820 Lincoln County, Tennessee census. I am a descendent of Abraham's through his son Stokes Beeson Waid and Lettice Hays Waid (daughter of Reuben Hays and Tabitha Cornelius Hays). I have located Reuben's grave but not Tabitha's. Stokes and Lettice are buried at Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville, Alabama. This is the information I have. It is from a document written in 1970 by Judge L. P. Waid of Oneonta, Blount County. The following is part of page 13 of the document with information related to the location of the grave. I am also trying to locate Abraham's burial site, hoping that will give me a clue to his first wife's name. One researcher believes that she was Amissa Cragg (Craig). Thank you for any assistance you can give me. Margaret Behel Page 13 WAID LINE On a little hill now enclosed in a pasture is an old grave marked by two stones that have obviously weathered many winters. Behind the head-stone is a cedar stump. The location is in Beat 28, or Thompson's Beat, in Blount County, Alabama, not far from Walnut Grove in Etowah County. About 1930 Luther Waid (my father) pointed out the grave to me as we were traveling the Murphree's Valley Road between Oneonta and Boaz. The cedar bush was alive then. He told me that it was supposed to be the grave of Hampton Waid, and that he was supposed to be related to us in some way. The grave is on what was long known as the Dorsett place, which was the adjoining farm to the farm on which my father grew up, and on which my grandfather built a house in 1891 that still stands. When I first saw the grave at close range about twenty years later, it was in a cornfield. The chiseling on the headstone could be made out clearly. It simply said "Wade, a Revolution Soldier 1776". In the summer of 1948, in the company of his grand-daughter, Peggy Byrd, I visited Reverend Abram Waid (1859-1949). His mind seemed to be clear and alert. He told me that he knew of the grave - that he understood it to be the grave of Hampton Waid - that Hampton Waid was from Virginia and fought in troops under George Washington's direct command that later he moved to Tennessee - that he had a son named Abraham who moved to Blount County about the time Alabama became a State - that Hampton followed his son to Alabama. Abram also told me that Abraham had four sons - Beeson, Elijah, Greenberry and Hampton. I don't think he told me the order of their birth. He said that he (Abram) was a son of Elijah.
Dear All: Here is the latest alert issued today. It's a Level Three Alert. Note that this worm looks like it's coming from Microsoft with instructions to install. One of the Security houses also found that a version of this could be executed without activating the attachment. So download your AV patches ASAP. If the virus can activate without execution of the attachment then the thought that you are protected by not executing attachments is false. Note that these virus are not being transmitted through Rootsweb but are coming from people that you know and have your address in their email program. Saw this on the DAVIS list so am sharing with the Wade list. List, I am interested in finding out any information on Howell Robert Davis, b.abt.1848, England. He emigrated to the US in about 1851. This is according to census records for 1900 and 1910, in Montague co.TX. He married Virginia "Jennie" Wade sometime in the late 1800's. She was the daughter of William Lynch Wade and Mary Pauline Anderson. Jennie was born in 1864, probably in Texas. William Lynch Wade died sometime shortly after the Civil War. Mary Pauline then married Nathan Lloyd Davis, March 28,1867, in Panola co.TX. Nathan Lloyd Davis raised Jennie, along with Mary Pauline and his own five children. I would like to find out if Howell Robert Davis was any relation to Nathan Lloyd Davis. Sarah Wade, daughter of Robert Wade, Jr. of Halifax Co., VA was my ggg-grandmother. There are numerous family trees on the Internet and the voluminous "Wade Notes" in Debra L. Koop's web site that state she married her uncle, William Wade. (Bond posted 26 Jun 1772) THIS IS FALSE. Sarah Wade married her first cousin, William Wade, son of her father's brother, Hampton Wade. The proof of this is contained in Halifax Co., VA Deed Book 13, page 453. This is given in Marian Chiarito's book, page 53 as follows: "Nov 22, 1785 from John Baird of the County of Prince George, to George Carrington of H, for 1758 pounds, about 1758 acres on the south side of Dan Riven in H, and bounded by John Armstrong, William Stokes, Colleys line, the Plumb Tree Branch, the road from Boyds Ferry to Andrews' foard, Rodger Atkinson, John Boyd Sr, and subject to the dower of Jeane Perrin, late the widow of Hampton Wade decd, & Sarah Wade, the widow of William Wade, decd, being lands formerly held by the late Hampton Wade, & Sarah Wade, the widow of William Wade decd, being lands formerly held by the late Hampton Wade decd, which descended to William Wade as his eldest son and heir at law, and by sd William Wade conveyed to sd John Baird by H deed dated Feb 16, 1779, and is the land whereon sd Hampton Wade formerly lived. . . " On 20 May 1766, Hampton Wade, for money he owed John Baird & Co., placed his large estate, houses, cattle, etc. up for security. Shortly after this Hampton Wade died intestate. His eldest son, William, inherited his father's estate and his debt. Hampton's widow, Jane Ellis Wade, who later married Samuel Perrin before 10 Sep 1772, retained her dower in her deceased husband's estate. For years after Hampton's death John Baird tried to sell or rent Hampton's estate. The VA Gazette has several ads showing this. In 1772, Hampton's son William, married Sarah Wade and the only Sarah around of marriageable age was Robert Wade, Jr.'s daughter. William died before 16 May 1782 and when this occurred, Sarah obtained dower rights to the same piece of property, which still hadn't been sold. On 22 Nov 1785, John Baird finally sold it to George Carrington, but the two widows still retained their dower rights. Sarah Wade went on to marry James Baird in Halifax in 1789. They remained there until 1805 when they moved to some still unknown location. The family started showing up in Bedford Co., TN in 1810. Sarah's son with William, Edward Wade, was the Register of Bedford Co. for a number of years and ended up dying a pauper. I believe Sarah's 2nd husband, James Baird, may have died in Bedford Co., TN around 1819. Shortly after this the family showed up in Perry Co., Dallas Co., and finally Jefferson Co., AL. Sarah died after 12 Dec 1826 and is probably buried in the Baird-Tatum Cemetery in Pinson, AL in an unmarked grave. Bruce Baird
Dear All: Here are the corrections to my previous post regarding the search engine by Hugh Wallis. A: The index searches the LDS index. It is not a separate database. B: The index is North America ( with Canada first :-) C: Europe is limited to the UK at this time. The other search hint comes from one of the users. If you insert the batch number in the marriage index, it will list all the surnames in alphabetical order. A nice touch if there are potential spelling variations. My apologies to Hugh for the errors. Best Regards John A Hansen List Admin -----Original Message----- From: Hugh Wallis [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, March 01, 2002 1:31 PM To: 'John A Hansen' Subject: RE: Hugh Wallis Updates his IGI Database ! Thanks John but here is a very important correction: I have not "compiled those records into a database by Parish that allows searching all the surnames on all the particular film in that entire Parish" as that would be a violation of LDS's copyright. What I have done is created an index to the LDS's index and presented it in a way that enables you to go to the LDS site in an easy to use manner, directly from my site, without doing a lot of guesswork about what batch numbers are valid, searching for and retyping of batch numbers. Could you correct that point wherever you may have sent your original message please Many thanks Hugh -----Original Message----- From: Hugh Wallis [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, March 01, 2002 1:36 PM To: 'John A Hansen' Subject: RE: Hugh Wallis Updates his IGI Database ! Dear All: The IGI parish database has now been extended to the USA as well as UK and Europe "So whats the big deal"? As many of you know and can correct my mis statements below :-) The IGI from the LDS has several components: A: The microfilm of the parish vital records took many hours to convert to digital format. There are of course still errors. There are also the normal errors from the basic data at the parish. These raw data errors on birth, baptisms, marriages, deaths etc are compounded by trying to interpret the handwriting of the local person and in the case of church records, the local priest or pastor. The conversion to digital format was then undertaken and so some more errors were introduced, however, the input was carefully reviewed and the translation from the handwriting was checked and double checked. So it's "pretty good". So the ability to quickly search these records in the parish provides a decent chance of finding a ancestor and the high quality of those records is valuable to all of us! Hugh has compiled those records into a database by Parish that allows searching all the surnames on all the particular film in that entire Parish. B: A second source of the IGI records was the submission by many people who submitted records. These records had some errors of fact and handwriting. Hugh has not included those as yet. Many people were becoming skeptics of the IGI due to the mixture of Class A and Class B records. In my view, while errors exist in all vital records, the Class A source should always be at least checked. The overall picture is one of a valuable source of records ( IGI) that are now available in a database that allows faster and more searching for records of the Class A. While people often moved, most did not move far. So a combination of searching a local parish and then moving to other nearbye local parish by using a parish map should reveal family connections. Then combine that with a census search and some brick walls may reveal some clues. So the original database is here and hope some of those hidden ancestors are found :-). Best Regards John A Hansen BTW: The original and complete database from the LDS is at www.familysearch.org. This database is organized by surname. There is also several other databases that provides lists of the films by parish and other books etc that are available. New records and information is constantly being added so check back often. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis >From Hugh Wallis: <My first lot of North American numbers are up on the site - you can <get to them from the same page as before - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/ - there will be more to come if folks can tell me what ranges to look <in!! Dear All: Alastair MacIntyre is the editor and publisher of Electric Scotland website. He has been working to clarify the status of the Clans. The note below is from his Newsletter published today. The revised web site is now up and has referrals to the various clans and some of the related septs are also shown on another section. There is also a link to the Burkes Peerage that gives a free thumb nail sketch of many prominent Scottish people. This site is now the closest that I know of that takes into account the legal status from the Lord Lyon court, the approval of the Scottish Council of Scottish Chiefs and the pending status of the others. Here is the latest Clan review from Alastair at www.electricscotland.com. You can also subscribe to his weekly email magazine here as well.. Please forward to other lists and groups that may be interested. Best Regards John A Hansen Board and List Admin CLANS ----- Done another update on our Clan Menu. I've now classified the clans as... ***** = Officially registered clans, with Clan Chiefs, that are registered with the Lord Lyon Court. **** = Officially registered clans, without Clan Chiefs, that are registered with the Lord Lyon Court and hence are described as armigerous. *** = These are clans that are in the process of applying for registration. ** = These names are ones that we have some information on and may be septs of other clans or simply a name where several have got together to try and form a clan society. We may further sub divide this classification if we find a means of doing so. I will be doing some ongoing work on this classification business and am commencing a search for information on clans that we don't yet have information on. Hi Folks, I am looking for my missing gg-grandparents and ggg-grandparents that disappeared during the 1860s. My gg-grandfather was William WADE and his wife was Catharine CRAIG. My ggg-grandfather was Elijah WADE and his wife was Rebecca HAMES. Both of these families are on the 1860 Marshall Co AL census living in the Parches Cove area which is in the West side of the city of Guntersville AL. After the 1860 census I can find no record of them. Were they killed in the Civil War? Did they move somewhere else? If so, where? I have even checked for them in South America. Maybe alien abduction? But in a very serious mode I am looking for any advice anyone can provide that may give me a lead as to how to proceed with this search. Your assistance would be most appreciated. Eldon <mailto:[email protected]> mailto:[email protected] Researching: WADE and HAMES - SC, GA, AL
Can you tell me if you have an Ester or Dorcas Wade in your family back around 1826 and 1832. They are sister and buried in Crown Hill Cemetery outside orrville, OH in Wayne Co, OH. Wher is this land you were referring to? Is it in OH? Both girls married Winkler brothers. They lived in the Wayne Co & Medina Co, Oh areas. Sandy
Hi, I am a cousin of Judy Murphy's. Her computer is "dead" because of a virus she received. It was automatically spread through an e-mail attachment to many people on her address list. She feels so bad that it has spread to many of her friends, and she can't even get to her address book to be able to send a notice to all of you. She has given me as many addresses as she can find and asked me to contact you all. If you've received a recent "odd" email from Judy with an attachment, and if you tried to open that attachment and it ran on your machine, you are probably also affected and should take action to clean your machine. It could already be spreading to people on your email address list. We've found out that the e-mail text and the attachement file name has been different for each person it was sent to. The one we received was a file named "weeks.bat". If you did not open the attchement and allow the file to run, you probably don't need to worry, just be sure to delet! e it, then empty the trash from your recycle files. One person who received an odd email from Judy did not have an attached file, but her email software executed some virus code and her machine was infected, anyway. I hope this notice helps prevent you from having some serious computer trouble. --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Sports - Coverage of the 2002 Olympic Games
