Author: emalave08 Surnames: Wactor Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wactor/14.19.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This is very interesting. I am trying to gain more information on Rufus Wactor (1826-1910) of Orangeburg South Carolina. He is the grandson of Abraham Wactor. I am particularly interested in where he was in 1860 in Sumter. Is there any way to find out where his farm was exactly? I found his 1860 census record would that pinpoint where he lived exactly though? 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: gcorrey1 Surnames: Wactor Ott Wechtor Wachtor Wechter Wachter Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.wactor/21/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Greetings fellow travelers... I have seen records here that show Mary and her family arriving in South Carolina in 1743, when she was 12, but I was originally under the impression that she and Johann married in Switzerland. I've also seen records showing that he arrived in 1749. These are the children I've seen listed for these two: Martin - 1741 - Germany / William - 1743 / George - 1745 - Germany / Jacob - 1747 / Abraham - 1749 - South Carolina ~ Based on what I thought was true, she would have had Martin when she was 10, in Germany. So I'm guessing that only Abraham was her child, and the others came from an earlier marriage of Johann - in Germany. Sad, because it appears that she married this man with 4 sons, had one more, and then he died. She found another husband (an Ott, even) fairly quickly, had 2 children before he died, and then found Peter Groseclose. I'm not sure if they had 8 or 9 amongst them, but all of this leaves poor Magdalene with about 16 kids by the time she was 35! I have not been able to find any earlier information about Johann, have any of you? Thanks! Georgia (yes I carry the name) (Wactor) Correy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. From Abraham, I descended from his son Jacob, then John Wiley, John David, James Tully, and then my grandfather was Ray Wactor. 3. Hi, Kevin. I think I may be able to help you. My paternal grandmother was a Wactor and she was born in Meadville, Franklin County, Mississippi. I have tracked the Mississippi Wactors to the immigrant George Wacheter who migrated from Germany to Orange County, South Carolina in 1749. Please contact me if you are interested.
