Hello SKCGS Members, We have various Volunteer Opportunities listed below. I will announce these at this Saturday's meeting, too. I'm giving you first chance to review the openings. You can call me (253-813-3957) or send an e-mail, phaynen@gte.net BOOK REVIEWER Reads books provided from various publishers; Heritage Books, Ancestry, etc. Provide a review for the SKCGS Newsletter. Mail copy of SKCGS Newsletter to publishers. Books are inventoried into SKCGS Library. CD's are available for review, too. Emma Livermore, present Book Reviewer would be glad to help you get started. HISTORIAN Collects and preserves all items of current events and historical interest to the Society, including scrapbooks. GERMAN INTEREST GROUP Chairperson arranges place for meeting as far in advance as possible. Notifies newsletter editor, web master and publicity chairperson promptly of meeting date and time, plus any other pertinent information. Appoints a group librarian if appropriate. Informs Budget Committee of financial needs. Composes articles about group and its activities for newsletter and/or publicity. Kurt Fredrikson, current chairperson, is retiring and would like more free personal time. He will continue to attend some meetings. If someone doesn't volunteer, this interest group will go away. PUBLICITY Responsible for publicizing the Society. Sends monthly news releases to newspapers and internet mailing lists regarding meetings and events. Sends flyers for special events to libraries, historical societies, etc. I'm presently doing this position. I need to give this up, since I have taken on the SKCGS President position. If you have a computer with FAX and Internet capabilities, this is the position for you. FAX flyers to the various newspapers in South King County and send e-mail postings to the WAKING-L and PSRoots-L mailing list. The newspapers have various deadlines for submitting this information. Monthly, it takes about 1 hour of your time. SUNSHINE Sends appropriate cards for illness or death on behalf of the Society. Any Society member may notify the chairman that mailing a card is suitable. SEMINAR/WORKSHOP Supervises a committee to: Determine date and place of seminar/workshop. Example: Our Annual Gene-A-Rama. Determine speakers and their topics, make appropriate arrangements. Compose a flyer to be distributed promoting the event. Include telephone number to call for information. Distribute flyer to local libraries and mail to attendees of previous seminars. Make-up packets for pre-registrations about 3-4 days prior to event. Hold a raffle in connection with the event. At two general meetings prior to event, encourage each member to be responsible for selling five raffle tickets. Solicit door prizes. Prepare sign-up sheet at meetings prior to event asking for help setting up/taking down tables and chairs, donating cookies, hosting and staffing consultation table, if one is offered. TRAVELING LIBRARY Tom Tombarge needs help to carry some of the many boxes to and from our Saturday meeting. Please help!
