    3. The South County Journal has not been microfilmed since Dec. 1998. Some of you may be aware of that but I did not learn it until last week when I went to the Kent Library to look up a May 1999 news article. Apparently microfilming ceased because the newspaper has a web site. I was concerned since our Society has often used the paper to obtain obituaries. They are available on the web site but not easily. It is necessary to know the date of publication, or close to it, which is usually within 2 or 3 days of the death date. If you're interested, go to www.southcountyjournal.com, click on "Local Almanac"; the next screen will have recent dates of obituaries with just one name listed. Click on the date and you can scroll down through all the obituaries published that date or use your "find" browser for the name you are looking for. OR -- you can click "Search Archives" on the home page and follow instructions on the next screen, making sure to click "Local Almanac" for the Sections Box. Again, the date of publication needs to be clicked to find the obituary you want. Betty Cooper
