    2. I don't know about anyone else but I'm kinda getting over-run with these messages. It seems no matter who answers these messages, EVERYONE GETS A COPY. That's kinda silly and because of it I'm taking myself off the subscriber list.

    3. The South County Journal has not been microfilmed since Dec. 1998. Some of you may be aware of that but I did not learn it until last week when I went to the Kent Library to look up a May 1999 news article. Apparently microfilming ceased because the newspaper has a web site. I was concerned since our Society has often used the paper to obtain obituaries. They are available on the web site but not easily. It is necessary to know the date of publication, or close to it, which is usually within 2 or 3 days of the death date. If you're interested, go to www.southcountyjournal.com, click on "Local Almanac"; the next screen will have recent dates of obituaries with just one name listed. Click on the date and you can scroll down through all the obituaries published that date or use your "find" browser for the name you are looking for. OR -- you can click "Search Archives" on the home page and follow instructions on the next screen, making sure to click "Local Almanac" for the Sections Box. Again, the date of publication needs to be clicked to find the obituary you want. Betty Cooper

    2. Our society is one of the sponsors of a program called Nearby History being presented at the Federal Way Regional Library by Lorraine McConaghy, public historian at the Museum of History and Industry. A newspaper release from the Federal Way Mirror briefly describes the program as follows: "Interested in learning about your house, neighborhood and family? Learn how to research topics in local archives and on the Internet, identify and preserve personal historical collections, and discover your own personal history during a free eight-part series of workshops...." . It is being presented every other Saturday beginning January 22 through April 29 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. The program is free, and open to the public. You can attend any one or all of the sessions in this series. For those of you that are interested, Mary Kozy has put the complete schedule, including topics and brief description of the program for each session, on our webpage http://www.rootsweb.com/~waskcgs Colleen Rockwell
