    1. Re: [WASKCGS-L] Library Volunteering
    2. Hi Tom, my computer is really acting up today so hope you get this. My last attempt disappeared. Yes, I thought I heard that Ancestry.com is on the SKCGS computer in the library. I just got the program and the added Census documents which I have never done before. Also want to check passenger lists for two ships that I know the departure dates. Your assistance to get me up and running on this program would be wonderful. Also would like to check out the Letters Home again (to Germany). I have to prove a point to the family at large and the book addresses the question. If I can get help with the program, I'll be there whenever convenient for you. Thanks, Shirley

    2. Phyllis Haynen
    3. SKCGS members, I announced at the Feb 6th Board Meeting, Char Kibbie has volunteered to be on the committee. One more volunteer needed! No experience required. The other members can guide you through the requirements for the offices they are trying to fill. I would like to announce this in our March/April Newsletter (deadline Feb 15th) and it is required by our Saturday, Feb 17th meeting. Without a Nominating Committe there will be no officers-elect and no SKCGS Society. You can send me an e-mail: phaynen@gte.net or call me 253-813-3957 Thanks for support, Phyllis Phyllis Haynen wrote: > > I reported at our Saturday, January 20th, meeting we need a Nominating > Committee for the June 2001 - 2002 Officers. 3. Shirley, Janice and I volunteer on the 2nd Monday evening at the Auburn Library. I'll be pulling "the duty shift" tomorrow night, the 12th, since Janice is at a conference in Leavenworth. I'd be glad to help you, I'm there from 7:00 to 9:00pm. But I did wonder: do you need the help on how to access Ancestry on the web, or what "new program" were you referring to? 2. I have subscribed to Ancestry with the additional Census Records and also want to access a Passenger list if it's on Ancestry. I only have the video tape and not a book. I'm pretty lame at new programs on my computer and wonder if I could make an appointment with an Auburn Library volunteer who could walk me through the process on the Ancestry Program there. Then I can be a whiz at home to access the rest. Thanks, Shirley Taylor, SKCGS

    2. Phyllis Haynen
    3. I reported at our Saturday, January 20th, meeting we need a Nominating Committee for the June 2001 - 2002 Officers. The committee consists of three members. Two general members, one member from the Board of Directors and one alternate board member. Cathy Wooden, Secretary, is our Board member and Tracy Arnold is the alternate board member. I still need two general members. I am mostly in contact with the Chairpersons and yes, I could appoint two Chairpersons. I would like to give this opportunity to two regular general members. This is your chance to participate in a once a year committee. And a very important committee. I need this committee by the Saturday, February 17th, meeting. I would really like to have two names for Tuesday's Board meeting. If you have questions and are interested, please contact me. The Accreditation program by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Salt Lake City, UT is being phased out and those who are paid up as AG will be able to transfer to the level of CGRS in the BCG program http://www.bcgcertification.org/ but will have to be tested at a later date. 3. Actually, just a correction to this. The Family History Dept. no longer handles the testing procedure for becoming an Accredited Genealogist. I just spoke with someone there last week, and they have turned this over to another independent organization. I should be getting some information from them this week, so I'll let you know all the details when I get them... 1. [WASKCGS-L] Library Volunteering
    2. Betty Cooper
    3. Emma Livermore sent me comments on her stint at the Library that I wanted to share. Also am including a note from Tom Tombarge in case any of our volunteers are not on the SKCGS Mail List. Looks like our efforts are well worthwhile! Betty Emma says: I had a very smart and nice lady come to the library today while I was working - her Grandmother had done the family history and genealogy etc., and when she died no one knows what happened to it all. This lady is going to start all over - she had no idea where to start so I spent a good hour with her and I think I have her pretty much on tract. I will keep in touch with her. She teaches music in the Auburn schools and lives in Buckley. She will be joining our society and will come to the Gene-a-Rama too. It really made me feel that our efforts of having people available down there will pay off. >From Tom: Thought I would make a report of my 1st experience as a SKCGS Auburn Library Volunteer last night. It went OK but only 1 visitor - a non-member who is ready to join us I believe. He attended our last meeting so that is how he found out about it. I was actually able to give him some pointers on his research plans. His name is Bill Coppernoll and he used to work with me at Boeing. He is a man with talent (even if he wears long hair - 8 >)) The night was quiet so I was able to do some research of my own. The Volunteer badge was/is where Betty said it would be - in the plastic container on top of the lateral file cabinet. The printer jammed the first two attempts I made - come to realize that there were only 2 sheets of paper in the tray and I think they were damaged sheets before i even sat down at the machine. Fortunately I brought some with me and it worked just fine after that. I left quite a few pages in the tray when I left - not sure if one of us will use it next or who might?? The other thing I will mention is that I never could get the CD's to change - and I followed the instructions we were given. Maybe i was not doing something?? Maybe Trish can check it out??
