Hi to all you EWGS folks! Need to pick your brains. Lucky me, I'm in charge of arranging programs for the Northeastern Washington Genealogical Society this year. I wonder if any of you could speak on any of the following topics or know someone who can? Would sure appreciate the input. .....Susan > Using mining records > Using newspapers in your research > Finding and using records for fraternal organizations > How to use the Dicennial Digest and what can be found > How to find and use insurance records Susan (Gallyon) Dechant sdechant@newgs.org sdechant@centurytel.net Stevens County GenWeb Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~wasteven/stevens.htm Pend Oreille County GenWeb Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~wapendor/ Northeast Washington Genealogical Society Webmaster http://www.newgs.org
Hi Susan - The only one that rings a bell - is Ruby used to do a newspaper research. Can't remember if it was in the classes she used to give thru the Senior Center or a program. I know that she has great stories of what she has found in newspapers. However, it might take an act of Congress to get her to do it. Lots of luck. I have had good luck in finding Masonic records for my ex-d-i-l grandfather. (Got that?) But don't know much more than that. Course my theory is anyone can make up a lecture if they are willing and able to present the subject. How are you and your new hip? My new knees are great - it is so wonderful to be able to walk thru Costco with each step being painful. I know now that it does take a full year for them to fully heal. Got a couple more months to go with my latest one. John had his 1st one done 9/30 and he is realizing the same thing. Ladies really do better than males in those respects. Bette
I worked for the Bureau of Mines, Western Field Operations Center, here in Spokane for a lot of years and may be able to put you in touch with someone with knowledge in the mining area. If you would like me to do some checking, give me an idea of what type of info you are looking for.
