Hi all - I am again putting out an SOS for support to keep the library open on Sat. It is evidently not a done-deal, no matter what the paper reported today. They are having another Library Board meeting on Monday, the 22nd at 3:00 p.m. in room 1A. (same room) It seems that those who wanted to have more days for the Hillyard and Eastside branches are going to fight to get them. It was a 4-1 vote according to the paper this morning. They do not feel that the downtown branch is as important. They need to be convinced that it is. There are probably just as many low-income residents that use the downtown branch as the ones mentioned above. I realize that it is very important those in the Hillyard and Eastside have access to their library as much as possible. As well as the downtown. They do not think the Northwest room is important either, so certainly they must feel that our collection is no big deal. We need to have numbers come and be prepared to speak to the fact of how important it is for the library to be open on Sat. Many other non-profit organizations use the main floor auditoriums. EWGS has spent almost 70 years building this collection FOR the library that helps the public as well. Perhaps someday many of the residents of these other areas will be coming to use the collection when they become interested in family and American history. So - please give a thought to helping us show a united front to the Library Board. I would appreciate any help at all from as many as possible. From Bette Topp
