Interesting article on the Review today on the State is going to post WWI Vets records on the internet. I was with the help of a couple of EWGS gene helpers that any of this is available to be posted and they are still working on the collection. Charles
We do need more cookies for the rest stop. Please bring them to the EWGS meeting in June. We will freeze them. If that is not possible please bring them to either my place at 2216 W. Dalton,325-4806 or Rosemary Braun's at 2709 W Sanson, 326-6146, OR money so we can buy cookies is ok too. Have a great Holiday and be safe. Wasn't the Bulletin GREAT? Lola
I have just finished reading my Bulletin and I swear, I don't know how Doris does it. Every time, I think, she cannot top that one and then along comes another that is even better. Great job, Doris. If people don't read all the essays submitted, they are missing great reading. They were all so good. Hard to pick a winner, huh? Bette
Lola Yes the bulletin was great. Charles > > Wasn't the Bulletin GREAT? > > Lola > >
Hope that you all have a safe and happy weekend no matter what your plans. I wish for some steady sun and warmer weather. I am sure that all of us have ancestors that we will be remembering for their part in keeping our country free. Don't forget that we will be learning about German Research on the 5th of June. I, for one, cannot wait. It will be a good way to start our summer. Bette
Bette Yes I do read the old newspaper extractions, and it was very interesting this time. I was asked a couple of years ago to look up the obit and probate for R.W. Forrest. He defeated James Glover to become the first Mayor of Spokane. I made a copy of the probate for Nancy in the NW Room as it was very interesting. He owned a lot of real estste in both Spokane and Tacoma when he died. Charles
Well it has gone about how I expected, except I was surprised they did not use privies, or outhouses back then. I knew from reading that life back then was mostly all work and very little time for rest or relaxation. Two of my Mayflower ancestors spent a lot of time in court and doing penance for their drinking so that part did not surprise me either. Charles
Hi, Heard from some "court" folks on the West side that said this site is not going to help prior to 1979. However, you know us genealogist, we'll look in anything for those ancestors. This was sent to me and I thought it was interesting. Bette P.S. Hope you are watching Colonial House - "The Good Ole Days"?????????? Yucks - = Go to this page and put in your family name and then click on "All Years" and see the migration of your family. It changes from era to era. Try your other family names. http://www.hamrick.com/names/index.html
I wanted to remind you of the "Colonial House" starting Monday evening at 8 p.m. on KSPS. It will also be on Tuesday and then the following Monday and Tuesday. Should be good. This was done in Maine while the last one - which I think was called Homestead was filmed in Montana. Also for those who watch Oprah - she is evidently connected to the Colonial House and it may be shown on her program at 4 p.m.on Monday. I can't wait to watch both of these. Bette Looks like an interesting site, I was going to try the last time I was on jury duty to see if it was there, but I guess I wanted to forget it more than I thought, I could not remember the name of either the defendant or the girl that was the victim. I should have put in what John Ziemantz told me about the data base. So here it is - This is a searchable database for superior court cases in Washington. These are of course the trial level cases, not appellate level cases. Since most cases never get appealed, this database gives a much wider picture---all the cases filed in Superior Court. Among the drawbacks------only relatively recent cases are available and the timeline varies from county to county. However, the database can give valuable information on families in particular counties, or individuals if you are interested in more recent stuff. Try it out and let me know what you think.
Hi All - John Zeimantz sent this site to me and said it was a new database to try out. Looks like it would be great for all those who do WA state research. http://www.courts.wa.gov/jis/jis_superior/ Also the time in coming to make up your minds about attending the German Seminar on the 5th of June. Remember that IS our June meeting. Get your checks in and bring a friend. I received the master handouts from Sabine in Munich yesterday and it looks like we cannot help but learn alot. I know you will regret it if you don't join us and IF you don't have a German, you will someday. Right, Charles? Bette

Bette The One World Tree program is a computer program that searches the GEDCOMS that have been submitted to Ancestry and Rootsweb. Right now this program is free, but after May 21 you will have to pay for the program. Manual searches of the GEDCOMS will still be free as will the files that were submitted. The files are not being sold, only the program to let your computer search the files. I just received notice from one of my lists, that Ancestry will now sell subscriptions for the Family Tree - No surprise at all. "If you have submitted a family tree to Ancestry.com, you should know of the change about to be implemented by them. Beverly - The DOWNTOWNER MOTEL AT 165 S. Washington is 3 blocks from downtown. They have budget saving prices with Cable TV, DD Phones, kitchnettes and elevator. Phone1-509-838-4411. Shirley I enjoyed the talk Saturday, I try to help people with those items that never will be on the internet. I know if you had sent to the Spokane courthouse for the marriage certificate before I started doing those lookups for the Auditor all you got was the certificate, and the Marriage Returns, sat over in a corner in a file cabinet with all the important genealogical information, unopened. My family seemed to know how to avoid the internet and CDs, as I have found very little on them in any CD or anywhere on the internet (other than what I have posted). Charles
