Here are a few odds and ends of stone inscriptions.......the wording "as it is". Some gravestones had long inscriptions those I didnt include here. Southampton,Mass: " The nature of the marker-a wooden slab on which were mounted a daguerrotype and an inscription on paper covered with glass- would indicate that it"s no longer readable even if it's still standing. However, John R.Kippax in his anthology published in 1877, recorded the epitaph as:" " this inclosure was dedicated to the ashes of Josiah Gridley and family. March 16,1852" - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- Cuttingsville, Vermont " the victim of an accident during construction of the 500 foot long covered bridge of the Sullivan County Railroad, an engineering masterpiece in it's day: " William Pelsue died Aug 2,1851, aged 42 years.
