I am trying to determine if the Joseph SMITH who was born 5 Jun 1785 at Cavendish Twp., Windsor, VT, the son of Moses SMITH and Lucy (?), was my g-g-grandfather. Is he the same Joseph SMITH who married Louisa MARBLE 21 Apr 1812 at Ashburnham MA and resided at Leominster, MA where he died 21 Jun 1834, at age 49? Joseph and Louisa had Lorenzo, Elvira, George, Alpha and Elbridge. I do not have an exact date of birth for my Joseph, just his age at death and the fact that he was born in VT. The above Joseph was the only one that I could find in VT in the IGI that was in the right range of dates. I would very much appreciate any information or assistance that you might be able to give me on the Moses Smith family of Cavendish. Thank you very much. Richard G. Smith Burnet, TX
Hi Richard, I live in the town of Cavendish, and have looked for your Moses but have not found him. I was born a Smith, and they are the worst name in the world. Mine seem to alternate between William and Richard. And I know they were in Vt. by 1800, except you couldn't prove it by me. Good luck in your search.
