First Generation 1. Jonathan Kendrick KINNEY was born on 6 Oct 1843 in Royalton, Windsor, Vermont.1 Illustrated Historical Souvenier of Randolph, Vermont, Compiled & Published by Nickenson & Cox, Published Randolph, Vermont 1895, p. 57. He was educated in the common schools of the Academy of his native town. At the age of eighteen years, when about ready to enter college, he enloisted as a private in the Six-teenth Regiment Vermont Volunteers, and served at the battle of Gettysburg, and was engaged in some skirmishes later. After being discharged, he engaged in business in the West until 1872, when he came East and studied law in Judge Rowell's Office. He was admitted to the Orange County Bar June 29, 1875. He practiced a short time in West Randolph, and later in Cincinnatie, Ohio. Gradually he drited out of the practice, and began writing and editing law books. He is the author of "Kinney's Digest," a complete digest of the decisions of the United States Supreme Court, and is the editor of the last edition of "Redfield's Railway." Sources 1.
