During his life he was always a staunch Republican, and held many offices of trust in his native place. He was chosen selectman in 1858, and held that office for ten years. He was lister of Bethel for a period covering thirteen years; overseer of the poor for twenty-one years; grand juror nine years; town auditor six years; and for two years was a justice of the peace. he was chosen by his party as a representative of the Legislature in 1866 and 1867, served two years. In 1882 and 1883 he was elected State Senator and was commissioner of licenses in 1885 and 1886. He was a regular attendant at the Methodist Church, and liberal contributor to its support. Miller, Appleton and Samuel were the operators of three farms. They were each listed as having 10 dairy cows. Hops were raised to considerable extent. all had large apple orchards, and the Appleton McIntosh farm produced considerable grapes. J. Miller McIntosh had a cider mill. There are still remains of a mill dam located on the upper end of Trout Brook. J. miller also raised fancy driving horses. One of his matched pairs was reported to have sold for $600. He worked in the mill with his father, and was onely twenty years old when he became proprieter of teh property, and has carried it on ever since. He has been twice married. Prince's Tub Factory is one of the manufaturing institutions of West Randolph. It gives employment to about thrity men, and four teams. It is fitted with all the machinery that modrn ingenuity can invent for the making of butter tubs, and their trade reaches all over New England. In connection with the mill property, there is owned a tract of land from which the lumber is drawn directly to the mill, and there manufactured into butter tubs. George John PRINCE and Mary E.
