Does anyone know what happened to stillborn Roman Catholic children of Irish immigrants in the 1850-75 timeframe? I had relatives in Charlestown, NH and Springfield, VT at that time. The town records indicate that at least three children were probably stillborn or died the day they were born. There are no tombstones for them, so I'm wondering what happened to them. I do know one Catholic, an Irish railroad builder Matthew Leonard, who was murdered in a fight by fellow Irishmen in Ludlow in 1848, was buried in the Catholic Burying Ground in Claremont NH. I believe this cemetery is located just behind the Fiske Free Library on Broad Street. His wife and family, however, are buried in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Ludlow.
