Hi researchers, Forrest, thanks for reminding us of the good free genealogy data at the Secretary of State's Office. Please contact me offlist and I will supply the email and/or snail mail addresses. I contacted this office via email. There is a Nye Index (an index to all persons who are mentioned in the Manuscript Vermont State Papers). I am happy to now have a photocopy of 1) the signature of Andrew POWERS [b. ca 1720], my 5 great grandfather, on a Petition for reappointment of Elkanah SPRAGUE as Justice of the Peace, 2) Andrew POWERS' name on 2 VT town charters: Hartland [aka Hertford], Windsor Co., VT, and Pittsford, Rutland Co., VT, and 3) Jonathan POWERS [m. 1820] and his father, Andrew POWERS' signatures on a petition [Vol. 51, page 97] to divert water for a sawmill which was denied in Guildhall, Essex Co., VT, after the War of 1812-14. Happy searching, Janice Jordan <"Forrest Manning"<fcgmvt@sover.net> contact the Vermont Secretary of State about the former Town of Salem and the records of Salem itself. For example: Grand Lists. Petitions.>
