    3. Dot: I am responding to your request and including my lists as well in case anyone else needs the information. [ list: Dot's query is below this message] Wellington: there are 2 "Wellington"s..... 1. Dighton, Bristol Co.,Mass: there was a town of Wellington incorporated as a town in 1814 but by 1826 both were united under the town of Dighton (which means Wellington in Bristol Co., no longer exists) 2. Medford, Middlesex Co.,Mass: Wellington is a SECTION of Medford 3. No record of a "Wellington" in Berkshire or Hampshire county. Berkshire County was established in 1761 from HAMPSHIRE COUNTY........in 1788 Berkshire was divided into 3 districts : Pittsfield is the "parent seat" encompassing all the Berkshire towns BETWEEN 1761-1788. You can contact the probate court: Berkshire Probate 44 Bank Row Pittsfield,Ma 01201 - --------------------------------------------------------------- The other 2 districts are: Berkshire northern district located in Adams,Mass 01220 and Berkshire southern district located in Great Barrington,Mass 01230. Now, the Rev War was from 1775-1781 and the records took YEARS to be filed in those days...... I would suggest that you try the National Archives first as they may have something on your ancestor (or Pittsfield Probate above): National Archives-Pittsfield Region 100 Dan Fox Drive Pittsfield, Ma 01202 covers western Mass, southern Vermont and border area of NY {Hudson valley area] - --------------------------------------------------------------- The other possibility would be the: Berkshire Athenauem 1 Wendell Ave Pittsfield, Ma 01202 (collection of 18th and 19th records of western Massachusetts as well as ........Vermont ....... western Conn.......and the ... Hudson Valley area of New York). - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- If you dont find anything in those places.....your next step would be Hampshire County records and you would need to contact [below] as all deeds in what WAS Hampshire County prior to 1812 is located in Springfield: Springfield Probate 50 State Street Springfield,Mass 01103 I dont know their fees or any thing like that......you may want to ask for a brochure of services before sending money. - ---------------------------------------------------------------- Another way is to contact the Western Mass Genealogical Society.....their meetings and research is done at the Connecticut River Valley Historical Musuem in the genealogy library [good one]. Again, I dont know their fees, write first W.M.G.S. Box 80206 Forest Park Station Springfield,Mass 01108 - ----------------------------------------------- Perhaps someone on the 4 lists have had experience with Berkshire County research and could offer other options........
