SARGEANT, Margaret (Phelps) At Royalton, Vt. Sept 28th, after a protracted illness of some months, which she bore with Christian patience and resignations, Mrs. Margaret Sargeant, consort of Mr. Jacob Sargeant, aged 48 years. Printers in Quincy, Ill, please copy (Boonville Democrat, Oct 15, 1850) SARGEANT, Jacob At his residence, near Newburgh, IN, May 29th, 1867, Jacob Sargeant, aged 60 years and 10 months. The deceased was born in Windsor Co, VT July 29, 1797, emigrated to this county in Mary, 1852, since which time he has lived on his farm adjoing Newburgh. He was an exemplary member of the Cumberland Presbyterian chruch and in his melancholy and accidental death the church has lost a faithful member, the community has lost a good citizen and his family has been bereft of a kind and indulgent husband and father Note: Jacob and Margaret (Phelps) Sargeant had 3 children Orsamus, Frances and Ermina. Jacob's 2nd wife was Harriet Marshall of Royalton who he married before leaving for Indiana. Jacob was accidently killed by a runaway horse on his farm in 1867. Jacob's brother in law, Margaret's brother was Abraham Phelps (A.M. Phelps) , b. Hartford,Windsor Co, VT 1/6/1798 and died 4/20/1886 in Newburg, IN.
