I am currently researching the BLANCHARD, MORSE, CHESLEY, HERRICK & PRIEST lines. Most come from the Sharon/Norwich area of Vermont. My current brick walls are: Hiram King Blanchard (adopted?) b. June 6, 1842 in Royalton, VT, d. May 29, 1876, a check of Royalton births finds no Hiram Blanchard. Family rumour has it he was adopted and original surname was WATERMAN. Parents listed on marriage cert. as Joseph & Harriet Blanchard. Death cert. lists him as illegitimate. Pension case file yeilds nothing. Found a Joseph & Harriet Blanchard with a child named Hiram TUCKER in 1850 Sharon, VT census, same family in 1860 census lists Hiram BLANCHARD. Probate court has no record of adoption for Hiram BLANCHARD, WATERMAN, KING or TUCKER. Married Eliza A WHITE. Buried Beaver Meadow Cemetery, Norwich, VT. Emma J BLANCHARD (?) wife of Orison R. HUNTLEY. She is listed only as E.J. on daughters (Flora) b.c. Listed as Emma in census. Friend of family says her last name was BLANCHARD. A check of vital records comes up empty.
