Dear George, According to "The Windsor County, Vermont, Probate Index 1778-1899," the court dealt with the estate of Elkanah Stuart (recorded as Suart) of Barnard in 1783 (not necessarily the year of death). That is in the Hartford Probate District. (Windsor County has 2 Probate Districts.) Elkanah died intestate. His case is recorded in volume 1. Samuel Steward or Stewart (the names are indexed jointly) was also of Barnard and also died intestate. His case was recorded in 1813, in volumes 4 and 5. Also in 1813 a number of Stewards/ts were named in Guardianship proceedings: Daniel, Deborah, Elizabeth, Emerly, Lyman and Sally. John Steward/t was of Barnard when he died intestate; his case was entered in 1841 in volume 14 and again in 1852 in volume 20. Despite there being no wills, the estate documents would probably have useful data.
