Thanks for this opportunity! My dad, Ralph Nevling, is now 90 and is in assisted living due to memory loss, but he served in the Navy aboard the US Astoria (as a charter crewman) in WWII. He also illustrated the Ship's newspaper; I have many of the old copies plus all his letters to and from my mom (now deceased). I have ration books left over from when the war finally ended. When you read the letters, you realize what a time it was. So hard on families, so lonely for the men in service. He kept many secrets in his heart and still has them there! Many other relatives have served, but my dad deserves to be remembered along with so many others in Veteran's homes and such. And so many gave much more after their service! Linda, In Maryland
