Hello, Reading about the Abbott and Kneeland connection in Andover, MA, I thought perhaps I could add something by consulting my Andover records. Now I'm somewhat confused, but maybe some of the following will be helpful. There appear to have been several men named Ephraim Abbott alive in Andover MA at the same time. I say this for two reasons: first, the birth records show their births, and the death records do not show them to have died. And second, two men appear to have been fathering children simultaneously--the births occurring only a few months apart. I don't find a birth records for Ephraim Abbott on 1 August 1718, which is the date which was posted in the message, but I do find the birth of an Ephraim Abbott, son of Ephraim and Sarah on 22 July 1718. Perhaps the 1 August date was his baptism. An Ephraim Abbott married a widow, Sarah (____) Hunt of Billerica on 6 Jan. 1714-15. Perhaps this Ephraim and the widow are the parents of "your" Ephraim. There was another Ephraim Abbot, born in 1710 (exact date not in AVR), the son of Stephen and Sarah A. The disparity in age between the two Ephraims suggest which Ephraim married which woman. Looking in printed Andover MA Vital Records, I find the following marriages: Ephraim Abbott jr. m. Hannah Phelps 14 Feb. 1733-4 Ephraim Abbott jr. m. Mary Abbot 3 Nov. 1740 Ephraim Abbott and Mary Kneelan of Ipswich filed intentions of marriage on Feb. 1, 1745-6. The only applicable death records appear to be: Epharaham, 8 June 1748, a. abt. 64 y. Mary, w. Ephraim, 3d, 9 Mar. 1744-5 However, the birth record of an Abiel Abbott includes the death of the father, Ephraim, in April 1745. This Ephraim was married to Hannah. Looking at the above records, my guess is that the Ephraim born in 1710 married Hannah Phelps and then died in April 1745. And that the Ephraim born in 1718 married first Mary Abbot and married second Mary Kneeland. You appear to know that he subsequently had a wife named Hannah, which may be recorded in Amherst. Nothing in the Andover records. ------------------- Birth Records for Ephraim and Hannah: Hannah, d. Ephraim (jr. ch rec) and Hannah, 26 Dec. 1734 Mehetbel, d. Ephraim, 3d and Mary, 1 Mar. 1744-5 There is also a baptismal record for a Kneeland, son of Ephraim, jr, (mother's name not given) who was baptised on 22 May 1748. It doesn't say how old the child was at the time of baptism, but the only couple with a known (to me) Kneeland connection was Ephraim b. 1718 and his second wife, Mary Kneeland--according to my theories. Hope this is reasonably clear.
