    2. Darrell A. Martin
    3. Greetings from your list admin: Tomorrow, Monday November 11, 2002 is Veterans Day in the Unites States of America. It used to be called Armistice Day to celebrate the end of the Great War, now known as World War One. Veterans Day is specifically for living military veterans, not a general day for honoring anybody and everybody. Please keep in mind that for many of us, a few pieces of colored ribbon -- and this day -- are all we get to call our own. I would like to invite all subscribers to contribute "something" to the list about a member of the family who served his or her country in the military. If you have family members who would go unmentioned otherwise, please feel free to bend the "on topic" rules and go ahead. And SEND THAT FAMILY MEMBER A COPY. Also feel free to mention those whose service was to a country other than the USA. Honor knows no political boundaries. 1. [VTWINDSO] Veterans Day USA Honors
    2. Charlotte M. Davis
    3. Hello List: Thanks Darrell for the opportunity to remember family on Veteran's Day. I would like to honor my maternal uncle, Cecil Forrest Berno, now age 65, who retired from the US Navy to landlocked Arizona. I would also like to honor my brothers Steven Gordon Davis and Gary Leonard Davis who served in the US Army during the early to mid 1970's. We were the first Davis's in our surname's direct line to serve our country since the American Revolution. We all served for one year at the same time. Sincerely, Charlotte M. 3. Darrell, I think that's a wonderful idea, and I'd also like, as an archivist and preserver of Vermont history, to urge everyone to consider donating their family's letters to and from soldiers to a historical repository some day. Think of all the Civil War letters that are now preserved so that all may learn of what it was like to fight in that terrible war. What we don't have so much yet are letters of more recent soldiers who served in the wars of the 20th century. They are equally valuable to our national memory.
