Hi, all: There were places called "The Meadows" all up and down the Connecticut River valley, and on other tributary streams. I'm aware of several in my own family history, including in Ryegate, Newbury, Weathersfield, and Springfield. Saying a place was "on the meadows" or anything like that, and not knowing what town was involved, is about as precise as saying a place was "down the road a piece".
