I am looking for a copy of a primary document that proves the marriage of Abel Baldwin, Jr., to Miss Rhoda Stent Plant on Oct 06, 1813. He lived in Cavendish and she lived in Weathersfield, both towns in Windsor Co., Vermont. I have contacted the Town Clerk for both towns, and the State archives in Montpelier. No one can find the marriage record. It is my understanding that marriages were recorded in the churches, then reported to the Town Clerks, then finally to the state. I have also been told that the state index is not complete. It looks like my next step is to find the church record. What religions and churches were in Cavendish and Weathersfield, Vermont in 1813? State records are at Middlesex VT on microfilm, but I guess they do have a PO box in Montpelier. I can check the 1st Congregational records at the Wea His Soc next time I am up there at the Dan Foster House Library. Becky Tucker rwctucker@comcast.net
