Does anyone know where George O. HENRY's Hotel was on Main Street in Springfield in 1878? I checked Richardson's book Nineteenth Century Springfield, but neither Mr. Henry nor the hotel is mentioned. I've just learned via court records that my g-g-grandfather John CARMODY was incarcerated for a year for running Carmody's Saloon and Cigar Store (Vermont was dry as of 1854) which the court document identified as being "on the opposite side of said [Main] Street from George O. Henry's Hotel." I'd love to find out where it was and if the site still exists, particularly since we're going to that area in August. On Beers' 1869 map Springfield House & G. O. Henry are in the center of town east side of Main Street where the Chittenden Bank parking lot is situated today, or where the old Adnabrown hotel was before it burned in the 1960's. There are a number of stores across the street today. I also see a T. Carmody residence on Mt Vernon Street and 2 J. Carmodys on that street too. Becky Tucker
